Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Having nightmares and feeling vulnerable etc. are things that it would be wise to discuss with your doctor because there may be issues there that a professional therapist could help you with. In any event, an internet forum would not be the best place to get advice on such matters.
On a general level it has been my experience that dealing with alcoholism through some sort of programme of recovery tends to improve many other aspects of living. For me it meant going to AA meetings and doing what had worked for other people but there are different things that work for other people. Have you tried AA meetings or some programme of recovery?
You may already have asked yourself why it is that all of us became so very ill from drinking. Doubtless you are curious to discover how and why, in the face of expert opinion to the contrary, we have recovered from a hopeless condition of mind and body. If you are an alcoholic who wants to get over it, you may already be asking -"What do I have to do?"
