Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Hi. I live in Toronto, and I'm having a hard time meeting anyone that I want around me. I've tried A.A. for many years. Perhaps 20 or so. It's a great program for many people, but I couldn't hack it. I just heard to much bullshit, gossiping and other crap when people get together and I felt very alone. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for A.A, to get sober, it's just the nonsense that got to me. I want to meet people in recovery, but I'm not finding a lot there and I was wasting a lot of time. There are many good people there but I just didn't connect with om most. So is there anyone around from Toronto, On? I sure would like to meet some.

So mad at Xfinity! They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today! Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I honestly found that most other ppl were getting under my skin because of the way I was. Everyone was annoying me, and sometimes still do. Just the way my brain is wired. I find myself saying things in my mind about the way others are acting ... but honestly the fact is when a person starts drinking the maturing ceases. So many recovering alcoholics are basically 15-16 year olds and act that way ... I was the same way. Time will fix this but it is a truth that alcoholics are usually behind on the maturity.
Also the other thing is I see me in them and that makes me dislike them because they are like me... weird but somehow it happens. The more I am tolerant, the more I grow in recovery. And that’s the goal
You gotta make the effort to make friends, they don’t just knock on your door, go get involved and don’t isolate.

Different things work for different people in recovery. It is not one size fits all.
I use to be so afraid of AA, in fact, I use to sit in the parking lot, too afraid to go inside and then I would go home and tell my wife I went to a meeting but I didn't tell her I never got out of my car.
It took me several more times before I worked up enough courage to go through the door and when I finally took that leap of faith, it was the best decision, I ever made. I got a sponsor who guided me through the steps which helped me in many different ways.
I saw some cliques in my home group and I remember they all sat together against the wall on the right side of me but I also remember how much wisdom they had and how they selflessly shared their wisdom with others, especially the newer ones. I could easily identify with many things they talked about. It was almost as if they were talking about my life. It was unreal!
When I focused on persons and not personalities, then I got alot more out of the meetings.
One thing I have learned is that it helps to have support when trying to stay sober, but there are other groups that are not AA that you may want to look into.
Good luck on your road to recovery. May you find peace and happiness along the way.
God Bless
Yes there is a lot of BS at AA. It’s a small society on its own and certainly the culture of the world is a lot different than when Bob and Bill W founded the program.
I have found AA is like school; I’m not going to be buddies with everyone in my class, so I pick the handful of people I like and I engage with them.
I’ve made wonderful friends in AA.
I’m not sure where you can go anywhere in this world and not deal with gossip and bullshit. It’s everywhere, especially when the invention of the internet and social media. People judge and spill their beans now more than ever.
Hopefully you find a space that works to help you through your struggles. AA isn’t the answer for everyone and you’ve given it a long, good go.
Please let me know what you find and there’s always here!
