hey. i am new a this so i am not really sure how it works. i am 46 and live in canada. i have been drinking for over 30 years and only within the past couple of years, if that accepted that i have a problem. within the past year i have admitted to being an alcoholic. i wont do AA. i am not geared towards group situations or religous basis for healing. i am trying desperately to stop drinking and did for a couple of months at the beginning of this year. i dont know what triggered my relapse but it seems each time it gets worse with heavier drinking. i drink every night to the point of blacking out. i never remember how i got to bed or what i did after a certain point.
i am on day two of not drinking. i feel like shit. i am anxious shaky headaches tired you know the drill. the nightsweats and "heebie jeebies" and itchiness drive me insane.
my issue is that i accept and acknowledge my disease but it seems my husband wont. i have begged him to help me to not let me drink but after a day or two he "caves" so to speak. i talked to my dr and her comment was i have a bad habit and just need to stop for a while then introduce drinking socially!!!!!!! i disagree. so now what. i have talked to my sister in law for help and i am hoping that her intervention will help. do i have to die for people to take me seriously or am i imagining a this problem?????

You need to find a doctor who knows a little about alcoholism. Also be honest with the amounts you are drinking and whatever other medications you may or may not be taking. This is youre life.
AA is not a religious organization it is a spiritual program. And is a fellowship of men and women who share there experience, strength and hope with each other that they may remain sober .We are from all walks of life Mums, Dads ,Doctors ,bus drivers ,sons ,daughters. The list goes on.
Have you been to a meeting you may find there are people there who have much in common with you and have recovered form a disease that tells you on one hand a drink will fix everything while it is killing you?
Withdrawing after the time youre been drinking especially by yourself can and may do more hame then good.
You are showing all the signs of alcoholism.
The inching is what we call the electric fleas its the nerve endings drying up there craving the alcohol or sugar in it. All this can be fixed.
People who are not alcoholic will never understand what you are going through. But the people in the rooms of AA do.
They think it is as simple as using willpower. Which the social drinker can do. .

I'm Mike an alcoholic in Boston. This is my first post here. Sober2day is right. See a doctor, and also give AA a fair shot. For years I believed AA was not for me. I was wrong and suffered for it. I've been sober 11 years now in AA. It seems as if you are reaching out (your husband, sister in law). In AA you'll find people who will take you seriously. We know. We've been there. You don't have to spill your guts to a room of people. Show up early anfdd talk to the cofee maker. They usually know the 411. Good lucjk and I hopr you find your path. Mike
I don't know where to start after reading your story. My heart goes out to you. I've been there so many times I lost count years ago, but right now I'm three and a half years sober and very happy. Firstly, I don't know what planet your Dr comes from, but it aint Earth. No alcoholic that I'm aware of, either personally or in literature, has ever successfully gone back to normal drinking after developing an addiction. They simply just die. If you're drinking vodak all day then there is no way you are imagining a problem - its very real, your withdrawal symptoms with verify this. Please, please, please, please, get in touch with AA. They saved my life and they can save yours too. The twelve step program is spiritual, not religious. And I beg you to try to get yourself into a rehab program, away from all temptation. Your husband doesn't have to acknowledge your disease, but you do. Get help. Good luck
