Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I got sober 18 years ago, with AA, a sponsor and the steps. I stayed sober for five years even though I left AA. My mission then became to show myself that I could be a 'social' drinker. I've been doing this for over 12 years. Even recently I didn't drink for 2 years but I returned to it for a couple test drives and things didn't go well. I'm bipolar and take medication to keep myself steady but still have to adjust things when I get manic or depressed. And mixing alcohol with those meds is a disaster. I drank a bottle of wine so fast last week that it was hard for me to stand up straight. Alcohol affects me big time when mixed with lithium and seroquel. It's almost a death wish. I thought it would help for me to join a community of people who could lend me support and who I could hopefully lend a helping hand to. This is my first post here. Today is day 7 but I guess I'm not being totally honest if I add that I've been alcohol free for most of 12 years and so I guess it's not as bad as if I drank for 12 years. It really wears me down to mess with my brain about this. It takes energy and I know that I am still the alcoholic from 18 years ago. So here's to a new beginning.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I continued attending meetings for about another year or so and then I stopped because life was good and I didn't think I needed them anymore. Within a few months, life began getting progressively worse. I went through a divorce, I had an accident at home that traumatized me, and there was more, lots more. and then I slipped. It was a short relapse. I called my sponsor. He picked me up and took me to a meeting. We had a long talk on the way down. He told me that after 2-3 years, we get complacent and we stop doing the kinds of things that kept us sober like going to meetings. It makes us realize how cunning and baffling this disease really is! So I went back to meetings once again.
Good luck on your road to recovery. May you find peace and happiness along the way.
God Bless
The thing is when I don’t drink my depression goes away. My mood is even and I don’t make rash decisions.
Alcohol is a drug and highly addictive. Just because it’s sold over the counter it should still be treated with the most respect. I just treat it like a cobra and choose not to mess with it.

I just need to stay away from the stuff. And with lithium and sera quill I’m sure the doctor would not want a depressant to Be added.
Alcohol is a depressant by nature as well, why I drank a depressant to feel better is a mystery. I honestly believe I drank because it allowed me to hide from ME

When I finished the steps, my life began to change for the better, and in ways I never could have predicted. Long story short, I am far happier now then I ever thought I could be. but it took work, in peeling away the layers of my ego and letting go of my fears....surrendering and trusting in my Higher Power who has never let me down. I use to hear similar stories at AA meetings but I never thought they would happen to me, but they did.
I use to depend on drugs and alcohol to make me high but my Higher Power has now taken over that job,
God Bless
