Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Here are a couple of things I've done that have helped.
First, with a resentment, I run it through the fourth step. Like it says in book, I ask myself what the other person did to piss me off, then how does it affect me, how does it hurt me, and trace it all the way down to what am I afraid of. Usually by the time I get there I realize I've made a choice to be angry based on some sort of fear, and I can make a different choice if I want. It's also here that I'm usually able to find my part in the mess. What did I do to bring it on? What could I have done differently? What can I do differently now? And for me the question was frequently, why did I allow this into my life? What am I getting out of this, and why do I continue to put up with it? I'm free then to either accept the situation with my eyes wide open, or move on.
Secondly, I've always been told to pray for the person I'm angry with, and again, back to the BB, I think of the other person as sick, like I was sick for a long time. It was really hard at first to pray for someone I'd rather choke to death, but after awhile, it really did work. I added a little twisted logic to make it easier by wishing the other person was so happy and content they wouldn't bother with me anymore. I pray for their well-being and peace of mind so they either act nicer or leave me alone completely.
Both usually make me feel better eventually. I like the saying that hanging on to resentment and anger is like drinking poison and then waiting for the other person to die. So do whatever you must to center yourself and find some serenity.
Wishing you peace, Laura
