My own personal expereince....when I am drunk, I listen to no-one, hence why I ended up in the police station so many times. However, I now look back and know I needed to do all of this to get where I am today...sober.

When I was drinking it was all about me wanting other people's attention, I didn't care how I got it, I just wanted it.

I always made it home and am still here to tell the story today.

It is hard when someone is your friend. I have learnt to 'Let go and let HP (god, the universe, whatever you want to call it)'. I have to do that nowadays when people just want to keep drinking.

We are all looked after.

Just know, if she is alcoholic, it is her and her disease. Hopefully she will get help in some form. For me, that was walking into an AA meeting.

I had a couple of times where I tried to help a couple of addicts, and it turned very bad. i was very naive, and misinterpreted a lot about recovery. One tried to steal my wallet and I caught her o n a transit bus and the people thought I was someone abusing a lady. I was clean and felt sorry for her. Offered her everything I had, gave her food, a place to stay. The other one I felt sorry for too, and let her into my place and she tried to rob me. We ended up wrestling on the floor of my apartment, and then out to the hall where I had to throw her down the stairs. I held her for the police, who of course thought I was a John having a dispute with a hooker. I learned from these experiances how p= owerless we are over someone with addiction. Might sound selfish, but I look after myself now, and leave people like that to others that may be more qualified to deal with them. People in their addictions can be very crazy, and it doesn't matter what you do, they are so controled by their addiction that they do anything to get what they want. I learned through this that you can't help others to change. It has to come from them. They may resemble a person, but their sickness has taken over, and they just are not home. My first priority is my child's safety. He's not old enough to understand why an addict is accusing him of theft. I'd of thrown her out on her keester. Ya can't reason with a drunk or an addict!!.

I agree with gr8tful2b. I know you were looking out for her, but keep people like that out of your home and away from your son.

At least she got picked up by a guy friend before it got any worse.

At the end of my drinking career, I was starting to get that way myself. I had been getting totally blitzed for so long, that I was starting to become someone else (my father actually) and only my "good friend" (AKA long time drinking buddies) could say anything to me about it, with out getting their heads bit (or shot) off.

It took a DUI and a court order to AA to let me see I had a problem.

In the circumstance that you were in...when she started to become abusive to you and your friends, I would have called the cops and asked for a "heath and safety check".

Try talking to her when she is sober and explain what she was like to you...she may listen. But you can not tell her she has a problem, because when we addicts are at the height of our addiction...we don't listen. Sad, but true.
