Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I made an appointment for counseling with a chemical dependency counselor. Hoping that helps me. I need an intervention...of course, I have been watching "Intervention" but I'm not addicted to heroin or crack or meth. Alcohol is my vice. Luckily, there weren't any alcohol episodes on...well, not luckily because if there were alcoholics on there, it might've stopped me from walking up to the liquor store...

Dick Van Dyke’s path to sobriety was a turning point in his life and career. Here’s what happened:How He Got SoberStruggles and Realization: Van Dyke began drinking as a teenager, largely to cope with shyness and social anxiety. Alcohol made him feel more comfortable in social settings, but over time, his drinking spiraled out of control. By his mid-40s, he recognized that he had an addictive...

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...

goddess....I remember those long walks up to the liquor store. I hated myself for doing it and I hated that I had to abide by the clock so that I got there "on time", before it closed.
There is a saying in AA..."there are no coincidences. I passed this house walking to the liquor store....it had a coke machine on the porch which I thought was strange. It was always full of happy people which really annoyed me. I actually crossed the street to the other side of the sidewalk so I wouldn't be "subjected" to them...
Turns out that was an AA house...I learned too many years later. And the first place I picked up my white chip.
I wish you peace in your thoughts and I too remember making that "first appointment" with a counselor. It was definitely the start of 20 years sober. God bless you on your first step to sanity. You've done your own "intervention". Good for you.
Then about 11 months ago I was so desperate that I was going to kill myself or quit. I knew that I could not do it bymyself. so I called a buddy that was in recovery. I went to a meeting that day and have not had a drink since June 9,2012.
I (repeat) couldnt do it alone. Now I have a bunch of new friends, hang out in new places, and God willing wont touch a drink today.
There is a saying where we come from that comes along with the 9 month chip... ( its green here)
Let the grass grow back on that path to the store...

Oh yes, the Solution to chronic alcoholism is one of a spiritual nature. Psychological methods cannot produce recovery for the real alcoholic.
We recover by the Steps we take, not the meetings we make.
