Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Learning to live on the present was indeed difficult to do, nut once achieved was indeed a blessing. Am I perfect at it? Hell no as I am still human. But as always I am doing the best I can.
In doing so though there is so much less stress in mylife today. Living in the moment is a wonderful way to live.
Coogee that is a great saying and one I shall apply in my life now
. Thank you.
God Bless, Mike
CM like Mike said I like that verse and if I wasn't rambling I may have not got to see it .
God Bless..All of you.
Lionel.
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
the rains fall soft upon your fields. and
until we meet again may God hold you in
the palm of His hand.
It is a huge responsibility to be careful what we are sharing. My sponsor told me once, " You may be the only Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous someone ever meets." Meaning, I need to share recovery and keep it real recovery, as I don't need to share the disease.
I needed to hear the words you shared here today. Rambling it was not. Recovery it definitely was. I am in this recovery deal seriously now for 23 yrs. I went out on an emotional drunk which led to physical drinking in 1997 and God willing I will be 13 in July.
This week has been real hard for me.. well, that's not the truth, it's been difficult for a few years now.. not the using part, but the frame of mind part. This past week or so has been harder than usual.
I know from experience if I do not keep my thinking in a good place what follows, my emotions, then possibly my actions, can be real dangerous.
I have been depressed. I am sort of isolated at home, with no transportation and a physical disability which dictates my daily physical reality all of the time. (Daily pain being the reality, fluctuating in severity, but always there.) I must keep vigilant with the program and my spiritual space or I will be in a more dangerous place.
Any who. Your so called rambling helped me remember I am in this moment, this moment being the only one I need to, "worry" about.
When I was first trying to stay sober, and I would be in this kind of space, my sponsor would tell me things like, "Just do the next right thing in front of you." Or, "What's the worst thing that could happen?" "Stay in the moment, First Things First, This Too Shall Pass", etc.
I needed to remember today, that I am not my feelings, I am not my mood, I am not my thoughts. I am, however, able to have some power over my attitude, thoughts, and emotions.... if I keep my spiritual contact first and foremost in all situations.... It may seem as if it won't work at first, but if I try... if I get my mind quiet, whatever that takes, and I focus on some aspect of my spirituality..... Pray, ask for help from whatever that Power Bigger than I is..... meditate upon something... the time will pass, the mood will change.. my thoughts will move to higher plane...
Even if I fall asleep trying whatever it is I will benefit... If I cannot do these things with any success I need to call someone in the program and spill my guts, as it were, and face whatever it is that I am struggling with. If the phone isn't answered I must keep trying, giving up is not an option, drinking is not an option.
Drinking won't help any situation I may find myself in. It is a problem not a solution.
My friend Bucky used to say he knew nothing of how to meditate so he would picture in his minds eye a "stop sign" and he would create it with his eyes closed.. adding flowers or whatever to the drawing in his mind until nothing else was in his mind but this stop sign... it works.
Slowly, the other thoughts or pictures in my mind will stop and nothing but this stop sign will be in my mind. You can try anything and use it to stop the chatter of the "Committee in my mind," as Bucky would call it.
Bucky died sober as the result of a drunk driver several years back. What a way to go huh??!!
He helped me in his living and has helped me in his death too, comes to me in dreams etc.
so... now that I've rambled on and on... thank you for helping me out of my funk.
