Big Brother is watching us...... for one though I have to applaud Jim for patience before closing many threads that are worthless, especially the ones I have initiated. I am such a loser........

you know... I expected this. DS has specific terms of service. Read them. How many times do you see me close anything. MOST of the time at the request of the writer or blatant disregard for the terms of service.

if a thread is posted that is specifically to belittle and humiliate another member on this forum, it should be closed.

Perhaps some of the "belittling" is an attempt to confront. We all know what I'm referring to. It's easy to be critical and close etc, but what alternative do we offer? Enabling?
I'm getting a little hot under the collar so I should shut up, but sober does mean fragile. Why do we fear differences of opinion so on this board? I was trying to be non-confrontational, but it didn't matter.
I for one am man enough, person enough to realize that what I say on here is said in indelable ink.
And nodp question, again not trying to be confronatational. If the original thread broke the terms of service why wait for all those post before closing it??

fair enough nodp, fair enough. I guess I need to have the courage of my own convictions and act in a healthy, but distinctly non-enabling manner the next time this surfaces and I'm sure all will follow what's right instead of what's easy.

if no one responds to an unwanted thread it quickly moves away with threads that are appealing and being responded too - Jim is doing a fine job

Partial apology. I have just read the thread which the closed thread was mocking and many of you were more confrontive than I've seen in the past. So I apologize for insinuating that you weren't being confrontive enough.
However, I still think we're too sensored. I know that opinion is in the minority, but that no longer stops me from voicing it.
So if anyone wants to get angry with me over this discussion, so be it

If the thread is that awful it'll die quickly on it's own. If it doesn't , maybe it's interesting to the members and shouldn't be closed?

For the record I have no problem with confronting the disease or to the open debate of ideas. What I do have issue with (because I have both done it and been the brunt of it) is the blatant attack with nothing in mind but to demean/belittle another. Ever think about the history of many here and one of the reasons they balk at AA. For years they have been demeaned, belittled, told they are less than. They come here seeking some kind of support but they only see their history. We that have been here for some time know who could care less hand it appears as if they won't or cant get it. On the other hand I can name quite a few that fought the ideas of recovery tooth and nail and finally made the break through needed to gain sobriety. Those that have been around for a while ALSO know that I have no problems getting out my hammer when it's called for. To confront the disease while attempting to understand the individual should be of importance.

BTW... There are only 3 reasons I close threads

1. Because the writer requested

2. Because I have been requested to do so by no less than 5 of our members (not enough?

3. If it is a blatant breach of terms of service and could cause more harm than good. Not just harm to an individual but I also have to take in to account the new person coming in.

Jim, you've just said that you're only one person and cannot live here. I would agree that it's a big job because the Alcoholic forum gets very busy. Why don't you have some help? Why isn't there a couple of other CL's? I've been on other DS forums that are not nearly as busy or as contentious as this one and they all have multiple CL's. In fact, the depression board ha 8 of them! You do a good job, but I think you could use the extra help.

Jack... I have been trying for months even asking a couple of others to put in applications. I asked for 2 more 1 from GB and one from Aus. to cover 24 hrs. Haven;t heard a word since.
