Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Healthy (recovery) speak needs to be supported. Unhealthy (addiction) speak needs to be discouraged and countered. If the speak is extremely unhealthy, dude needs to be set down and disciplined. (The definition of discipline is "systematic instruction," NOT punitive degradation.)
IOW, live to love and love to live. "All we are saying is, to give peace a chance!" OK Wayne, quit it with the Beatles already!
I am 10 years sober in AA but am new to this site. I've been shocked by the sledging and the out of control criticism. I think this dynamic happens because people have the anonymity of posting on a site without regard to the consequences for other people. And it is done under the banner of "tough love". Bulldust. While this is not an AA Group, I am an AA person and if people spoke to others in an AA meeting like they do here in some threads, they would be rightly called to account and pulled up. I'm not a perfect person by a longshot, but I do try to live with higher standards than I did when I drinking in the pubs, clubs and dives. Not everyone obviously does the same though.
Can I make a suggestion? It's what I've started doing. Get really harsh about which threads you read or participate in. If it's this judegmental/critical stuff, close down the thread and don't participate. It's a good form of boundaries, which we do in real life too. There are plenty of constructive, sobriety enhancing threads. Stick with those.

For my part I'm trying to focus differences of opinion on the AA is Spoken Here thread instaed of here.
These 'disagreements' have gone on here as long as I've been here (couple few years), so if it ever gets too 'normal' around here, I'm sure I wont fit in anymore.
It does seem to happen from time to time and 'nut'tin gonna stop it. It just passes, and many times ppl have learned to respect for eachother through these sorts of times, and where there once was an enemy, there became a friend. I've been there several times, and have made some of the best friends through fueding with them first.
Sccooter, I'm nuts about you...please, if you're thinking of moving on, don't. Pleeeeease don't leave meeeee...I mean us!!!
Love and hugs
lmao! really loved that one..hee hee....
Now I'm wanting a Pecan Pie!!!! Ohhhhh, the calories in THAT!!!!
There was a cat here named Dan65,, let me tell ya it was nuts. Nothing but degrading, cussing, and name calling. I loved it. I actually suited up to travel to Tennessee to whoop his ass.
I can say that I have changed immensely since then, I really don't have the energy to participate in childish behaviors.
But back to the point, get used to it, the main board will always be like a boxing ring,, it is kinda amusing though.
I Want PIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Sccooter, I'll give you the grandbaby if you can get some pecan pie with that nut order! (o;
It was about 2 years later that we found the real one hidden away. hahaha!
It was awesome, I'll make you one for when we meet, I promise! :)
OMG how juvenile!
I like nuts in a psychotic way, not just a little nuts, but a whole lotta crazy. Then let it die down and you'all can get back to your day jobs. I am all about cathartic release peeps, as long as it is all in good healing porportions. MUWHAAAAAAAA
See, I caused conflict in a nutzy way. I am a multi-talented alcoholic! Boy am I proud of that!
Karen, you know I think you are the coolest. Keep on loving people as you do. It reminds me that not all addicts are miserable (sober or drunk)! As far as others not liking this site, the measure I use is, "Is it helping me to stay sober?" There are a lot of things I don't like and a good number of them keep me sober.
Stat nutty everyone...it beats getting drunk!
