Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I went to my nieces wedding last weekend in Pittsburgh. Of course I wasn't looking forward to being surrounded by drunk people at the reception, not that I thought it would trigger me but I was hoping I wouldn't be pressured to drink. There were a few relatives that needled me to go to the bar, so I did but I got a coke and told the bar tender I was driving.... I lied because I went by bus!
I felt a little awkward being the only sober adult in attendance but it was amusing watching others lose their inhibitions. I think people are funny and I love watching them.
When all was said and done, I had a great time and both of my older sisters, knowing I have a propensity to over indulging in addictive substances, were very understanding and took real good care of me and it made me realize how fortunate I was to have support. I am glad I went!

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

Sober on!

Missy,.... I thought of you when I grabbed my glass of water to toast! They put my table on video and I wonder if anyone will notice I was toasting with the water glass instead of the wine glass! haha!
1istoomany....yes that is so true! 95% of the things we worry about never happen, and the other 5%, we can't do anything about....is the way it was told to me. It is something I need to keep in mind all the time and I'll probably sweat alot less!
Billy, my sisters are both retired now and I think since I have been a no show at other weddings for various reasons, probably from being drunk or high, they were just happy (and surprised) that I even showed up. My family has not always been supportive but the wisdom gained from being adult children of alcoholic parents kind of binds us together and makes us love each other more, I think.
Thanks Exjersey, I just wish I didn't miss the other weddings. I have 2 nieces and 2 nephews and they are all married off now.
God Bless you all!

Congrats on staying with your plan to be sober. Good for you!
Fairygirl: Yes, I had to force myself to go because I felt I owed it to my sister to be there. I remember driving up to their door, and I had knots in my stomach, wondering what kind of reception I was going to receive but they put me at ease immediately and made me feel welcomed. It was nice.
Trojan Yes, we had those parties at my house also, when I was a kid! Every Saturday night, aunts and uncles would arrive and immediately start drinking. Some of them would pass out and hae to stay the night. It was pretty disgusting but back then it was called "fun"
God Bless!
They were pretty controlled partiers. Maybe that is why I grew up thinking it was ok?
