So, I was talking to this guy on myspace (just got me thinking) that used to coach my niece. He is divorced, but thats not the point...He was trying to figure me out and sked why I did not have kids, or was I just focusing on my career...He was very nice but it got me thinking, what have I been doing the last few years? I have been a drunk party girl, without goals, or goals that I never achieved...

I dont know....I was thinking about how do I respond to that? Oh, well, I have been an alcoholic, and unproductive, and irresponsible, and lost and lost...

I am not interested in a relationship with this man and probable will not respond, but I cant even respond to myself! Does anyone else feel like drinking has stolen so much of thier lives, that we can never get back...I know that the future is what we make it but meeting new people and explaining myself is not so easy all the time....

sorry to ramble on...just some thoughts tonight :)

Ashley, it's okay to ramble, this is a safe place to do it, just keep an open mind to the replies. Sure, time was wasted in the past, but you have so much to live for now. I say the Serenity prayer daily and it has helped with my acceptance.

Now I'm sober, I have achievable goals and I reach them by, get this, it's a tricky one ......... by actually doing them. When I turned 40 I bought a convertible, got my belly button pierced and took up martial arts lol. Ash, You've got to start somewhere, and a white belt in any activity or career is as good as anywhere, no matter what age. There's a wonderful journey ahead of you on your new path, embrace it and live, I know you want to :}. Coogee xxx

hello ashley8888 - i am new to this sobriety thing, i quit on 1/6/09. but since then i have thought about the same thing. what didn't i achieve that i could have? all the things i did i wished i wouldn't have. it is hard to tell people i was a drunken party fool. right now i've decided to own my past, offer no appologies, and tell people the basics until i know them better. i'm not hiding it, just not dwelling on it. peace to ya, stay strong.

Well, I only lost about 5 years, but it's gone and was replaced by 30 glorious. Your headed in the right direction. Don't dwell on might have been but what is and whats going to be. The world is your oyster.
