Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
A girl new to AA has been coming to Saturday morning open meetings. A few weeks ago, this mtg got so large they decided to split off a small group which I decided to join in another room. Whitney, this new AA came along also.
When we went around the circle for discussion of Spiritual Experience, another woman shared that she was a member of Overeaters Anonymous and was attending our open AA mtg because she couldn't find an OA mtg that morning and she loved the inspiration she got from recovering alcoholics.
When it came Whitney's turn, she choked up as she began to speak.
"When the chairperson announced that some people could split to a small group, I thought to myself that I should stay with the larger group. For some reason, I just sort of got up and found myself putting my jacket and purse down next to this chair in the smaller room. I didn't even think about it. I didn't know whether I was in the "right" place or not."
She started to tear up...
"Now I know that God led me into this room for a reason, and you (OA woman) are that reason."
Whitney hadn't yet mustered the courage to attend an OA mtg but it was actually a bigger problem for her than her alcoholism. This was a miracle for her that she was introduced so miraculously to someone that could help her along on this other journey that was troubling her so deeply.
The two women embraced and spoke after the mtg, and Whitney is receiving the help she needs now in both areas of her life. I believe the other woman became her OA sponsor.
It was so beautiful to witness and so unbelievable. I just can't reduce this to mere coincidence.

It's a good thing I didn't let my hubby announce that he is a couch potato addicted to Mythbusters. That would have gone over REAL well.

I believe if one pays attention these kinds of things happen all the time to everyone.....its a shame that the credit rarely goes... where credit is due.
Would it make a difference if one listens closer, opens there eyes wider....sure it would as one could hear and see the miracles all around.
God, never left me.....not for a minute.....I was only deaf, and blind.
Your ability to experience this is a sign your hearing and vision is opening to the miracles waiting to be witnessed.

If I walked in and heard someone talking about crack, sex or too much chocolate cake, I might have said "well, this ain't for me" and gone back to killing myself with vodka.
I needed that crucial identification with other alcoholics.
I do empathise with the OA member. Maybe she could start the first OA group in this small town!. And awarenesses, when they begin happening are the coolest experience. From being numb to being alive is a wild ride!
If I had tried to set Drafter up I could not of done better....but I wouldn't.
With the info he had he was right on. A bit tight about it but i find that cool..his principles were correct in my opinion
I hope he learns he needs to ask more questions before reacting...As I do also

LOL, I went to a meeting once where a newcomer was allowed to chair. He said "we always talk about how we suffered when we drank. Tonight I want to hear about the good times!" That's the only meeting I ever walked out of.
But I know what you mean. I've sat through the meetings with everything but the kitchen sink too! I just figured it was God thinking I needed a lesson in tolerance, lol!

I am so talky in the morn...gotta tell this one-
Was chairing a meeting and I signed a girl's paper. I knew her so I noticed she left 5 mins into the meeting. Didn't think a thing about it
3 hrs later Sheriffs came to my door. They asked if she was at the meeting, my throat closed. They told me she used me as an alibi for a crime she had just done.
I rolled on her like a puppy wanting it's belly rubbed

I just know for me, with this post a month ago, I would have gone apeshit on anyone who distracted from the miracle. Now I'm actually tearing up a little because it DIDN'T turn into a big fight. Wow.
I agree the woman should not have spoken, and usually I get impatient when things go off course, but for some reason this was just so sweet and innocent and brief, it made me want to cry for the sheer beauty of it.
The OA woman was there as a guest. She should not have spoken, but she did, and all ended well. Miracle delivered.

ML-that's pretty funny....in the meetings I've attended though, the chairing person doesn't sign the form until the end of the meeting, so they have to stay if they want that signature! :) Although most sit and doodle or zone out, they still have to physically sit there for an hour.
