Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I've definetly surrendered to being powerless *after* the first drink. I know I am.
I know that if left to my own "magical" thinking things get unmanageable. So when I get caught up in all that...I really try to turn it over. I'm a work in progress in that area among others.
Relate to those words Tara. I didn't even know I was surrendering, yet to anything. Finally just stopped struggling with myself and my life I was always fighting with. Surrender to me was final acceptance that not only had a serious problem, but I couldn't fix it on my own. More importantly, it was something 'I' wanted. Agree with Sticky, a great post and reminder Tara. Thank you.
I like what you said about "act as if" because that is what I had to do. I had to start taking actions that were suggested because I did not have anything to lose at that point and that is what I think I really was surrendering to - that willingness to give up trying to do it my way.
