The only thing to blame for Robin Williams death is the bipolar disorder he fought for at least 30 years. Most ppl don't want to face mental illness head on, they'd rather sweep it under the covers and pretend it doesn't exist. The fact of the matter is, most bipolar sufferers self medicate when they can't afford help or when the help just isn't working. As a bipolar myself that's exactly what I did. I was manic and used alcohol to help bring me down and all it did was make it worse. So please don't be so quick to judge what/why he died. He fought the good fight and in the end the disease (bipolar disorder) took him.

It's an outside issue for AA anyway... Talk about brushing things under the rug.

And I don't see how AA could be considered responsible for his suicide.

I can understand being upset -- his death is a shock. But please don't use this tragedy as a reason to slam AA without backing up your statements with facts.

Robin Williams' death has hit a lot of us incredibly hard but please don't use this tragedy in a negative way. He was an incredible man with struggles that many people just don't understand but let's try not to disgrace his name. He will always be my hero.

No, program, fellowship, group, or person is responsible for anything I do. Sure different people and things can help or influence me, but the final burden of "success" or "failure" in any action I take lies in my personal responsibility and the choices I make.

I agree with Precious about the probable largest cause of Robin Williams' demise... I saw one report that Robin Williams would go off his meds when he was doing comedy work for the creative edge of mania some bipolar people experience. If such was the case the crash phase of bipolar would be intense and the meds didn't bring him back this time...

I am bipolar and I once went off the meds and within a year and a half I was hospitalized again. The meds snapped me back quickly. I remember asking my shrink that since the meds snapped me back so quickly could I go on and off the meds as necessary. He said, "No, the next time the meds might not bring you back"...

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that this is what happened with Robin, but my gut is telling me this is what contributed to what happened.

I almost am not surprised. Robin was so manic. Hel he used coke to chill out. His mind was just too much for him in the end. But to blame a organization is bs
