Let me start this tale by stating categorically that all Irish families are matriarchies, so this is the context of what follows. We were all together for Thanksgiving or Christmas one year when my maternal grandmother was about 75 and my nephew was about 3.

Grandmother had taken her usual position in the Power Seat in the living room and toddler nephew (i.e. her great grandson) was playing with his toy truck on the floor at her feet.... Aaaaand action:

Grandmother, leaning over with big smile: "Patrick, what's my name?"

Patrick: Ignores her and continues to make motor noises as truck traverses carpet.

Grandmother, still smiling: "Patrick, what's my name?"

Patrick: "Varoom varoom screech."

Grandmother, now visibly pissed: "Patrick, what's my name?"

Patrick, looking up for first time, "Don't you know your own name, lady?"
