Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Hi everyone, I am here for some moral support and strength. I did a silly thing and drank a glass of wine a few nights ago to settle my nerves at a social event and now I keep craving. I had maintained my sobriety for over 14 months prior to that and I honestly (and stupidly) thought I could have one glass and it would be no problem at all. I am now being taunted by memories of the surprisingly nice taste - even first thing this morning and I was never a morning drinker. I am concerned by the intensity of the cravings. I understand now why an alcoholic is never supposed to have that one drink!

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

The physical craving will get weaker with each sober day that passes so you just need to tough it out for a while. Removing the mental obsession that is telling you that you can drink a glass of wine may need more work. The thoughts that you are having about the nice taste etc. are coming from the obsession for alcohol that is trying to convince you to drink.
One thing that you could do is to run the tape the whole way through. First of all, that one drink would eventually lead to many more and you would be right back to your worst days. All of those bad things that happened in the past when you drank would be repeated and nasty things that did not happen before would be added to the mix. For many alcoholics the last scene on the tape involves being locked up in an insane asylum or lowered into the ground in a box and sadly I have experienced that happening to a few people recently.
However, there is another way and it is the way of hope and recovery. Every journey starts with a small step and for me the way back started when I very reluctantly walked into an AA meeting. Are you willing to go to any lengths for sobriety?
Like PJ said, just tough it out and the cravings will pass.
I wouldn't beat myself up over it. It was an experiment and it sounds like the results aren't worth repeating.
You are not gaining anything by starting to drink again except problems and issues. Look how just 1 glass already started to mess with your mind.
You did the right thing, you stopped while your ahead.
Learn from your actions and don't do it again.
You have been there for me before...
Are you in AA? If so tell on yourself in a meeting; tell your sponsor; tell friends. If not, perhaps now its time?
I give you a lot of CREDIT...and YOU ARE STRONG.
I hope you don't drink...because you now...what happens.
It hasn't been different for me EVER....I'm even surprised you stopped at one glass of wine.
I will be thinking of you and hope that you can move on from the one drink...and get your anxiety to go away.

Take action , get off defense and go get sober.
So know you know what caused you to pick up a drink, you can make plans to prevent that from happening again.
Good Luck!
You can get through these cravings -- they'll go away. Stay strong -- you were sober for 14 months and you can live sober again.
