About Me

I first decided to stop drinking in August 2013. I didn\'t tell anybody as I wasn\'t sure I could do it and I\'m a very private person with too much pride it would seem. Well I managed to go for 7 weeks without a drink and after the first 2 weeks it got easier and easier and I felt better and better. However I always thought to myself \"I\'ll just drink on special occasions and that will be fine - I can manage that\" When I look back now I can see that I was holding out for a special occasion and as soon as I went on holiday in October the drinking rapidly escalated. It then continued as I came home to discover my father had advanced cancer - well that\'s a good excuse to drink and drown my sorrows I thought! Then came all the family events over Christmas and New Year - well I better make the most as I don\'t see them very often was the next excuse (I live in NZ and they live in the UK) It took me 4 months - many hangovers, some physical injuries, a couple of blackouts and plenty of shame - to climb back on \'the wagon\' I have definately learnt my lesson and I\'m deadly serious this time!
