Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
What exactly does this mean?
I can't say I REALLY know myself for any long periods of sobriety, but when I was in college I at least went 5 days sober some weeks. From that point until about 4 yrs ago, until the booze started really taking over, I felt invincible. I was charismatic. I laughed a lot. I smiled all the time. I was outgoing. People wanted to be around me. I felt great most of the time. I had normal periods of adversity that were trying, but I always bounced back. That is who I believe myself to be in essence, THAT person. THAT is what I want back.
I know maybe it's too soon and I shouldn't build false hopes, but I'm starting to feel my old self again for the first time in a LONG time. Something has been lifted and I want it to last. All the f'ing pain I was wearing and carrying seems to have been removed for the time being. It's as though it's losing it's grip on me. I am starting to feel hope again.
As yet, there is no real substance to what I feel. Just feelings. But in my head I am starting to believe I can get the substance back, my health, my relationships, my drive, my ambition, my routine.
What does staying grounded mean if this is what I feel?
Am I setting myself up?

This is what it means to me to be grounded-be able to handle what life throws my way with dignity, courage and faith. Not run and hide in booze or other ridiculous distractions.
This is the relationship that I needed to not just renew, but discover. In early sobriety, I was sure happyier, but I found it to be short lived. Mostly fuelled by my expectations of myself and those around me.
Getting to know myself and gaining self-awareness was one of the most profound awakenings I had within my 12 step journey. Keep the momentum moving forwarded Anna, it gets even better.
personally.......i think one is grounded when self ego falls third to the needs of others....................and never remove that GD stone that finds it way into your shoe................it is a reminder.
