Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
good stuff
Yes, okiyoe, this what I believe we all struggle with!
For me, as an alcoholic, it is a struggle for my actual survival. I have to fearlessy face the truth about myself - good and bad - in order to know what needs working on most in any given situation.
The antidote to evil is spiritual power. The evil in me was exacerbated by faith in the false god of alcohol. It rendered me powerless and I could not get out of the downward spiral without God's help.
If I fail to continue to grow spiritually I know my next drink will soon be here... no matter how many years I get away from my last drink.
I can't entirely trust myself (being fallible and human) to always know right from wrong so, for me, that is where prayer and meditation are vital as well as discussing issues with my sponsor.
I haven't heard of Alexander Solzhenitzyn before - is he a philosopher?
His quote was very interesting, particularly the first statement -
"If only there were evil people somewhere; insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them."
I know that some countries still have the death penalty and that is exactly what the powers that be are trying to do. However, they are bound to get it wrong sometimes as those powers, mighty though they may be, are still only human too.
Perfect people in a perfect world - I wonder what that would be like? Somehow I think life itself would lose its purpose - without pain how would we know joy, without sorrow, how would we know happiness etc.
For me, I have always believed that this life is a preparation for something beyond my understanding.
honestly, i have found that surrendering self to weakness reinforces true belief in soul.
what concurs.......sin or wisdom? find the answer and you have found self.
