I just posted about the AA birthday I attended last night, and the amount of sobriety in that room last night. It got me thinking, the DS Alcoholism Forum is like that room, full of recovery, but maybe our new members don't realize just HOW much sobriety. I wonder how much sobriety is in this "room"?

Maybe we could all post our lengths of sobriety, and keep a running tally. Maybe we could show those new to recovery or struggling with recovery that recovery does work. Maybe we could give them a better sense of "if they can do it, maybe I can do it too."

I remember when I was new and the idea of even getting 30, 60 or 90 days seemed impossible. Amazing I think, something worked.

And what worked is available to everyone. :-)

My clean and Sober date is 6/4/86...Pretty Trippy! I heard to turn it over early along with my My opinion of what Soobriety is suppose to look like. Other than the abstaining from all mood and mind altering drugs part.....I loved to change my mental state through remaining, chemically imbalanced!! Easy to do you know... But the consequences Sucked :) Thank god for the step work AA fellowship and all other help offered to get Better!!

Holycrap! It's soooo inspirational to see all those 20 something YEARS. That's a long dang time!!! When I joined here and saw some folks with 3 or 4 years, I thought "no way will that ever be me!" but I am 2 years and 5 days. :)

See? Bet some of you think that you'll never see a year either...but you will...if you work at it. :)

Nemo, Newcomers being less confrontational in person because they are outnumbered by oldtimers? You make it sound like a game.

The oldtimers in the meetings I go to actually help the newcomer. Do you?

I really don't think Nemo is an AA-er. I really don't. I've never met anyone at AA who acts like him. Maybe it's like that Mormon deal when they split years ago. Some just couldn't let go of polygamy.

To me, old means diddly doo.

17 years. However theres a saying said in scotland "were all Jock Tamsans bairns". In summary it means 'were all the same. no-one is better or worse than anyone else. Yeah, good for others ..and me :-) to know that we can sustain a life of sobriety. However its what I do with my Life that matters. Am I going to be someone who talks a talk or 'walks the walk ie practicing Faith. To me I put that literally..inside and outside of AA. I dont feel that im a member of any "elite" crew (AA) just because im sober. Im glad I know sobriety is a gift and I can chersih and be grateful for the gift.

I've been reading posts in this forum for over three years. Despite the occasional tiffs, there's no mistaking life's better sober.

Since long before I joined AA, I've been an unrepentant sociologist. The difference between then and now is that now that recovery has leveled the playing field, I'm better at it.

Well, I DID have about 20 years, but then I went manic from undiagnosed Bipolar Disorder and started drinking like a fiend!!! Once I got diagnosed and medicated, I stopped again. That was four or five years ago!!!
