Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
My first sponsor was 17 years sober when I met her, and I wondered how on earth I would manage 1 year, let alone 17! Believe me, the time flew by, but not with tons of help and support from many people who came into my life over all those years.
I should mention, too, that the 27 years are behind me and have little to do with today. Every single day is a renewal of a pledge to live soberly.
In real-time AA, by contrast, they tend to be much less confrontational, mostly because they've either got a court-ordered attendance sheet they need signed after the meeting or because they can plainly see that they're outnumbered. It's rough.
I blew out my back and I started up on prescriptions of Vicodin and ambien going on 3 years ago, with my AA sponsor and home group's knowledge. At that time I had exactly 25 years and 7 months completely clean and sober. My sponsor and some key members of the fellowship thought "if you need it, you need it". The vicodin gradually got out of hand. So, a year ago February 15, thru the grace of God, I joined NA, now with a year clean from Vicodin, and embarked on a long taper from Ambien, which acts exactly like a Benzo. I finally kicked Ambien August 8th. Kicking the Ambien turned out to be the hardest thing I ever did in my entire life.
I can't use any mind-altering substance successfully. I'm a true addict.
I went to a different Doc yesterday. His clinic IS willing to treat my Hep C!!!!!
So maybe I will have years!!!!
To Life!
Through the grace of God, AA and a lot of footwork.
What i like about recovery the person with one day or one week can say to the person still drinking this is what i did to stay sober today.
And that may just save the life of that person.
God Bless...
