Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Hi, i have been sober for almost six months(HOORAY) but when does the fun begin?? I am starting to feel so restless, bored and agitated!! I don't miss drinking, but i do miss feeling carefree and spontaneous. My life is better now that i am sober.. i know this... but at the same time it is harder in alot of ways because of the fact that i'm being forced to deal with things now! I still can't believe how much effort it takes to live sober. When i first quit drinking, i thought that life would be just peachy and problem free. Now i see all the things i ignored before, and there's alot.I'm getting tired... i try so hard to change but the negative behaviors and thinking just won't go away. It's almost a minute by minute struggle to stay positive! I get frustrated easily.. in the beginning i cried all the time, and now it seems like i'm angry all the time! What's next? When will i feel more grounded? When can i have some fun?? And how the heck do i do that if i'm always swarming in all these different emotions?I want it all NOW!! lol wow do i ever sound like a petulant child...

I feel so good and have so much more energy nowadays, but if I let myself get depressed, then I get stagnant and sit around, brooding and bored.Recovery doesn't just fall into your lap,you gotta work at it and for it.That is a job that is never done, and is never done good enough. If you have time to be bored, work on your recovery.Go to a strange meeting, call another drunk, read the literature,do something for yourself. If you are able to just stop drinking and sit around being bored, you'll be posting about going back out. There's work to be done, jusduit.

I have fun all the time, at work, off work, it's all about attitude.Find some hobbies go do some fun things, go to a movie, go to disneyland, let you're inner child out. good luck.

I just went to meetings every day for the first year, then cut back to 6 meetings a week for the next 4 years. By the time I was 5 years sober I actually knew how to keep myself out of trouble when I didn't have a busy schedule and I learned to enjoy it. When I get bored now I look for someone who needs help with something (usually it is my partner who needs help with dishes or taking out the trash) and I help them (him). I enjoy the few moments of down time I get now because my life is in order. Took a while to learn but well worth the wait.

The emotions will level out in time, especially if you work the steps. I have to remember it took me a long time to get sick, it will take time to get well

I haven't been sober long...but yeah I get those "boredom" feelings and it is really hard to deal with. BUT I would rather be bored than drunk...because that was worse. I would start drinking around 2pm and stop around 6 or 7 then I was asleep on the couch by 8...fun times there! NOT. The negative stuff is hard to make go away that is for sure...I am just reading everything I can get my hands on to help me get through....also I am exercising a lot to burn off the stress and anxiety that I feel. I think ALL the emotions are what we are supposed to go through...to make it. We basically are greiving...and you go through a LOT of emotions when you do that. Hang in there...congrats on 6 months!!!!

i discovered i have an addiction to risk-taking behavior. i would tell you a couple of stories but I'm not sure of the statute of limitations-lol. hardly a day goes by when I'm not lmao because i stay real connected to the people in the program who did crazy stuff like i did. we're still nuts but we just don't throw alcohol/drugs into the mix. also, if you go the a.a. route we have sober retreats (may) and I'm planning on a camping/riding the rapids trip in july. the book says we are not a glum lot and anyone who knows me will attest to that. devon

hey it's great that you are feeling like you are bored. It means you need to find something just for yourself to do , not for anyone else, just for you, (BESIDES DRINKING) really, i thought it was not me but yoga, working out, meditating, it really makes you appericate the changes you see in your self and you feel like it is fun, so you do it more often. Try it and hit me back, Espically doing ab's you can see a difference fast.
