For the longest time I told my husband he had a drinking problem, we have a daughter who is 15 now, the times we went out for dinner, I would not drink as I watched how much he drank. I don't know when it started but now I drink with him. She said, you never drank too much with daddy at dinner cuz you'd watch out for me, now you drink with him as you don't have to watch out/care for me. A while ago I had too much to drink in front of my daughter, she was heartbroken and told me I was getting like daddy and she did not like it. I told her she would never see me like that again, which she has not. But she now tells me not to drink cause it makes her uncomfortable ( she may be nervous it will get out of hand?) I do anyway as I want to show her I can be responsible. My dad was a really bad dunk, I mean falling down drunk, which my husband and I are not. I do enjoy drinking, I am Italian and are used to having wine with dinner, I can have one glass a night and no more. My daughter told me today that she just found out that her friends left our cape house a day early after the 4th of July because we were drunk. I am sick to my stomach!! I do not want my daughter to lose respect for me, but I'm afraid that the damage is done. I can only learn from her words. Please help me make sense of this.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Yes, you belong here. Don't have the wine. Just for tonight. Come back and post all night.
Welcome home....... you belong here
Only you can decide. The thing that may tell is the normal drinker doesn't develop a craving to drink more after the fist. The normal drinker will almost get sleepy and tired at 1-2. Me 1-2 was just the beginning. I am happy that I am sober, sure I miss a cold drink sometimes, but the positives far outweigh the negatives.
also another trait is that when I wasn't drinking I was thinking when the next one would be. I remember the first experience with this while skiing in Colorado. We had to wait to go to dinner and I was so ready for a drink. I was just so needing the booze.
I can't explain how liberating a life is where I can be around my kids and sober and really be present.

When I was just a few years older then your daughter, my mother was drinking and throwing up blood. The main artery to her liver had hemoraged. I called the ambulance, they came, and as they were loading her, She said 5 words that were the last words I heard her say...."I don't want to die!"..... She died shortly after.
The guilt I felt over my inability to stop her from committing a slow suicide, affected every major decision I ever made in my life from the job I chose (and hated) to the person I married (and ultimately divorced) and it took over 30 years before I was able to let go of all that guilt......during therapy for my own drug and alcohol problem!
So please stop drinking for your daughters sake. It would really bother me to see her live a life like mine!
I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers,
God Bless!
Your daughter's concern points to a serious drinking problem. You should consider taking alcohol out of you life. i found much happiness after I quit. I don't miss the wine at dinner, but it was a hard road in the beginning. Just remember that you have the power.
You cannot undo what has been done. However by stopping the alcohol, you can gain your daughter's respect again.
Just put the bottle down and that will be a little less stress for your daughter.
God Bless!
Your daughter deserves a sober mom, and you deserve to be sober.
A glass of wine a night is no issue, but it's wildly inconsistent with being too drunk to care for your child. Or with having friends leave as your a drunk...
Your daughter has seen something that frightened her. She's pleading to you because she's been afraid to broach the subject of your husbands drinking.
If you don't have a problem, then quitting until she's older will be easy. If you can't live without it, you likely have a problem.

It doesn't matter to what degree you feel you do or do not have a problem with alcohol at this point. Your daughter is terrified of the effect yours and your husband's drinking has on your family so just eliminate it. It shouldn't be a problem if you aren't dependant on it. If you find that you are, get help to quit. Your daughter's happiness is way more important than the booze. Prove that to her.
