Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

SERENITY PRAYER
God, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things
I cannot change Courage to change the
things I can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardship as the
pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did, this
sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make
all things right if I
surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy
in this life, and supremely
happy with Him forever in
the next.
Amen
When that old idea stopped working, I was so tired of beating my head against the wall and so tired of hurting, that I became willing to do anything to stop the pain because, for me, drinking wasn't an option. I became willing to do the work. That is what makes growth possible.
"Thy will" is my new mantra.
In examining the motive behind what one does or say's there is the underlying matter of choice. By making that choice we are exerting our will to perform an act in accordance with that path our HP has shown or allowing the selfishness of the non-spiritual disconnected old self to come forth.
To me it is useful in reminding me that when I think I am running the show I am bound to feel bad whether about the past the future or how things are right now.
When i am not trying to run the show my life is so much calmer and more peaceful and positive.
I still can get resentment now and then have to remember 'resentments are taken not given' and then I can work on it and see my part in what is going on.
Or do you mean past as in just a second ago????
If i am re feeling that anger long after the event has passed then that is resentment.
I dont know where the line is though between anger turning to resentment. I sort of know for me when I am angry and it will pass and when it has not passed and has turned into resentment. Depends on what I am angry about circumstances etc.
What are others thoughts - when does anger become resentment?
if that makes sense
I am thinking about one particular situation that happened Monday night.......you are correct, I was angry at it. Then, like the good alcoholic I am, I kept thinking and thinking about it and made it into a resentment.
I tend to see anger as 'ranting' yet you give a whole new perspective on it which I can understand. I guess anger can also be just in ones head...never thought of it that way...as a silent emotion! Wow!
I also do belief though that when I am not personally involved in something, like a work situation, that a resentment can happen without anger. Such as through frustration.
Food for thought for me.
