In 1986, I admitted to being an alcoholic and I quit drinking. By 1992, I convinced myself that I wasn't an alcoholic, I just had a ton of stress in my life and many normal people drank just like I did.

So, from 1992 to 1994 I experimented with every known way to stay in control and the harder I tried the more control I lost.

September 4, 1994... I not only admitted to being an alcoholic but for the first time accepted that fate. That one drink was to much for me.

Thanks to my Higher Power for giving me a second chance at this and for making the most out of it.

19 years sober!!!! Thank you God

That is wonderful Messenger! I am sure your post will bring hope to lots of people who are struggling right now. There is a way out and you found it. I found it too at a later date but I am loving the journey.

Thanks for your share. I am an alcoholic. I have been going through this
doubt thing. Am I an alcoholic? Is there really a God? Am I one of those sick people who just can't get it? You name it and I have questioned it.

By going to f2f meetings all week, I realize Yes, I am an alcoholic. Yes, God of some type or form does exist.

I am grateful for the A,A. program and all the wonderful people who conduct those meetings just because they care about another person.

I especially love the phrase. "we are going to love you until you learn to love yourself".

I am happy for you in your success against "the demon", alcohol. I had a similar experience to yours, but in reverse. I quit for nearly 14 yrs, after a 5 or 6yr binge (following a bad divorce). Then about 11 yrs ago, I decided I could drink again. I am now in big trouble, realizing I need to stop, and will at times for a few days...then a little thought in my head tells me I don't care and I start again...I am frightened by this. Have gone to a few AA mtgs, but somehow can't seem to stay with it...Any suggestions?? Thanks.
