Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Sorry G. :)
Gratitude.....I try to think of everything I have to be thankful for in sobriety. How my life has changed for the better, how all of my relationships have improved, how good it feels to just feel good!
I say the 3rd step prayer before getting out of bed and occasionally on the way to work while driving. If it get agitated, I try to remind myself that I am not in charge of shit!
I try to keep recovery talk in my day to day life. It doesn't dominate all of my conversations and thoughts, but it's there. I have to stay connected with my friends in recovery through meetings or here on DS. I can't just skip all that stuff and assume that I will not drink.
I use the tools that I have learned in recovery and try to sharpen them even when they're not needed. I don't always succeed, but I try. Staying connected with my sponsor, my friends in recovery, my family and God helped me to stay sober today. I'm not planning on having a drink tonight. :)
GJM, I don't know if I could answer that briefly. I wake in the morning, and decide I'm going to live for today and use all the tools I've picked up along the way to help me do that. I just can't wait to see what the day will bring. I guess I answer it by saying I remain sober by doing whatever it takes to avoid that first drink.
That's about it!

A few minutes later, I realized I forgot all about it. The feeling had lasted two minutes tops. Again, for the umpteenth time, I realized that I quit for good. That desire to drink is a leftover feeling from my drunken days that is getting weaker and weaker and that I can push away.
Even if you put a glass of vodka (my old drink) in my hand I just would not be able to drink it. I'm done. It is a little exasperating -- even if I wanted to drink, I don't think I ever will be able to ever again.
But to make sure, I take walks every day where I think things over. I visit boards to listen and learn. And when cocktail hour rolls around? You'll find me with a large drink of juice. Hydration really does help.
Gratitude for me is instant joy when I look at all God's given me.
I live with a cup half full today, not half empty.
I do this by:-
Carrying the message of recovery including at meetings, sponsor ship, 12th stepping.
Living by spiritual principles to the best of my ability
Taking inventory and making amends where necessary
Prayer, meditation
Trying to live by a code of love and tolerance.
What I have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of my spiritual condition so my spiritual condition is the most important thing to me.
I can complicate anything. keeping it simple. : ]
some days......
that's it.
Trust God ,Clean House and Help Others.
Also if I don't pick up the first drink it helps.
God Bless...
