Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

1. It makes me/keeps me FAT. This is the most I have ever weighed in my LIFE! It keeps me fat in a number of ways. First, the obvious empty calories (100 calories per shot). Second the lack to willpower to eat well after Ive had some alcohol. Finally, the lack of motivation to get up and be active and do something physical. Oy a triple threat.
2. Being too heavy causes more MAJOR pain in my hips. And my knees. One pound of fat adds three to four pounds of pressure to my joints. It is chronic. PLUS excess fat itself causes inflammation. And more PAIN! And fat does not absorb alcohol so it goes right to the bloodstream.
3. It causes hangovers. And headaches. It can ruin the entire next day.
4. I feel puffy in my face. It probably is related.
5. It is stressing my liver. My blood test already shows liver stress. That cant be good. Alcohol is toxic. Chronic alcohol abuse interferes with the bodys metabolism of nutrients, leading to damage of the liver, digestive system, and nearly every bodily organ.
6. It leads to high blood pressure.
7. It enlarges the kidneys, and increases the risk of kidney failure.
8. It leads to sleep disturbances such as tachycardia, nightmares (unusual dreams) and irregular sleep patterns.
9. I am more prone to hot flashes. Night sweats.
10. Being fat make me self-conscious about my body. I hate how I look on pictures and in the mirror. I am embarrassed by how I look in a swimsuit. My clothes dont fit. My bra digs into my flesh. In cases of excessive alcohol consumption (read: abuse) you can develop something called ascites: a buildup of fluid around your abdomen that can cause distension of a sort.
11. Its affecting my libido. I dont feel sexy at all. I am less likely to have fun intimate activities.
12. It affects my mood. After alcohol, I am more prone to outbursts of anger or crying. I get short tempered and cranky. I drive less safely. It ultimately makes me depressed.
13. It impairs my memory and clarity of thought processes, and my reflexes. I drunk drop things.
14. Its expensive! Just the booze alone can amount to $200 a month!

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

the weight gain is a big thing for me too, i cant fit into a lot of my clothes and its noticable mostly in my face and its ruining my skin. I'm starting to notice digestive issues, headaches and fatigue.
I'm doing a 9 day trek for a mental health crisis charity in april and i cant be as unhealthy as i am. It means the world to me to do this trek. Its a sign of how far i've come over the past 8 or 9 years. I'm alive and i didnt think i would be. I cant let my drinking hold me back.
financial is another issue for me too i will go out and spend $200 odd a night when i dont earn a large amount of money and it puts financial strain on me.
i feel like its also holding me back from meeting someone. Every time i'm out socially i'm to drunk to know what i'm doing most of the time.
There are so many reasons to change but i know its going to be hard work. I think it will be worth it.
When I was drinking, I never thought about empty calories, I could have cared less. When I drink, I could be a rude asxhole.
You said $200.00 a month on booze. It was WAY more than that for me, what a waste of money. I barely hit the gym when I was drinking. I am glad those days are over...
Some of these reasons are really good reasons to put the drink down. Many of us are not at the point of death when we think of stopping our alcohol abuse. But that does not make us different. We just aren't as far along. I believe we would/will get there sooner or later. Lucky for you, NeedHelpForMe, that you don't have to get worse to see all of the bad that alcohol does.
Lucky for me too. And I pray that all those on the site that are still drinking can find their way.
