I am bothered by alot of stuff that is said on the other post. I was told that keep from drinking you go to meetings and listen. When you feel like drinking-go to a meeting. I have been going to meetings-doing at least 90 in 90days. I am trying to build up the courage to get a temp sponsor to work the steps. I am scared to death to start drinking again. I guess the vibe I get from the other post is that maybe there should be 2 AA's-one for the "real" alcoholic and one for the rest of the people that just cant stop drinking on their own.

Angie, you don't have to wait until someone categorises you as 'real' or 'unreal' to attend AA and work the program. If you have a desire to stop drinking, then you are welcome at AA. You don't have to spiral into self-destruction and take everything in your path with you to identify as a 'real' alcoholic before you reach out for help.

In fact, the earlier you get help, the better. You nor your families need suffer to deterioration or death. Hopefully anyone who can identify they have a serious drinking problem or are in any form an alcoholic will get their asses to AA before they kill someone.

I'll say what I said in the other thread. For those who would like to see only real alcoholics in AA, they may be well advised to comment on how traffic courts and professional organizations funnel mere problem drinkers into the rooms.

No, there is AA and there are other 12 step programs for those who choose not to be in AA - people who can stop on their own, are only being abstinent from drinking they aren't achieving sobriety, something I learned and recognized after not drinking for 10 years before i went thru any program - I didn't slip off the wagon, it's just i realized after attending certain classes that i was just not using, I hadn't worked on sobriety.

My opinion you are either diseased with addiction or you are not - and there are different levels of it just as with any disease -

The meeting I have been attending they focus on just getting to meetings at first. They said that if you want to recover then work the steps. I can relate to Carebear, I was sober for 11 years and only worked up to step 2 or 3. It was about 2 years ago when I relapsed for about 1year and 9 months. On July 4th I'll have 90 days. I wish I had gone to meetings and started to work the steps when I wasn't drinking, then maybe I wouldn't have relapsed?

Your dam right you wouldn't, were not playing games, its your life were talking about! You need to take control of your recovery, please get a good sponsor and do the steps you can do them in 3 weeks if you get willing and a good sponsor.
