I have noticed that lots of peoples profiles are only available to friends. I know why this is - because of security and the fact that details can be seen on google searches.
But does anyone else find this difficult. When somone I dont know posts I sometimes like to look at their profile so I can find out a bit about them in order to help them in the best way I can. Cant do this for a lot of people so have no idea about them.
Also sometimes I would like to send someone a hug or message, especially if they are new or struggling but cant do this either unless I am their friend. My profile can be seen and I get hugs that I would like to give hugback to acknowledge but I cant.
Short of being friends with everyone I dont see a way round it.
As I say I know why it is but I feel a bit restricted in being able to make contact with people and develop connections with people.

I don't really put any personal information on here like my real name or address or phone number.
I don't really understand why people make their profile only visible to friends. Take me for instance, I WANT people to know I am from "The Land of Gondor". We have very few alcoholics in The Middle Earth and how would we ever find each other if we kept private profiles? :-\
Jokes aside, I agree. I don't think there are very many of them though. Maybe you have noticed otherwise. I say just friend em. Beat at their own game. :) I have done this with some and have been very happy upon getting to know them.
Maybe a software enhancement can be recommended to DS Admins where an account can be 'private' yet still receive PMs and Hugs. If a user wishes to lock that down further, then the next 'privacy in depth' would be to 'block' a user from being able to PM/Hug.

Now you can't see what forums they belong to. I also have tried to send a hug to people only to see that I can't unless I'm a friend.
My profile is set to "DS Members" only too.
Sometimes we all just need a hug out of the blue to let us know people are there.
The strange thing is.......if you have your name screened on DS you don't appear on google, yet if there is a post written about you (your name in the title) then you still come up. Weird censorship?
Bring back hugging and PMing...bring back the love
