My dad is an AAer & an alcoholic. He describes it as an allergy of the body and a compulsion of the mind.
The first time I picked up a drink I couldn't put it down. That was the allergy. I was 14. That part was genetic.
It's been on my mind ever since. That's the compulsion & obsession.
Those 2 questions are enough. Those 15 or 20 questions don't mean shit to me.
Peace!
The coke addict can perform superbly in life & there are tons of functioning alcoholics, like me.
My thought is...stop asking that question cause only you can answer it. And your answer will change. Usually it is "yes" after a bout and "no" after a long sober stint.

Hey, good on you for asking, because you don't have to wait for it to become a more serious problem.
'If when you honestly want to, you find you cannot quit entirely, or if when drinking you have little control over the amount you take, you are probably alcoholic.' Page 44 Alcoholics Anonymous.
You could try this too:
Drink 2 drinks (no more and no less) for 30 days - if you can do it chances are you are not an alcoholic (even though you may be drinking in a way that is injurious to your health) - if you can't do it, I would suggest giving AA a try.
