Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I do agree with Karmickools ways and what she believes in on this matter however, you still need a doctors knowledge and guidance as to what your doing....
For one if your so newly into your sobriety your gonna suck up anyones advice wether its good, bad or ugly... I know for myself I would have put myself on the line for anyone when i first started to sober up.. you know why I wanted to be liked then.... but like i said this is down right scary shit.... whos gonna be there for you if you go into shock of some sort... I tell you who isn't. noone from this site... thats who isn't ....
I stick closely with my doctor in regards to what i am doing... he knows me, knows my history therefore i TRUST his opionons... and yes there is much needed advice on here but thats all it is advice... someone elses living history,,, we all have our own history and we all have our own futures... Now ask yourself this... do you want your future... if yes, see your doctor!!!!!
HEY! There are some valid concerns being expressed and I should have clarified in my post. The med is klonopin and I was only taking it on an as needed basis which I cleared with my Dr. I was taking it once or twice a week for panic attacks/alcohol withdrawal as I have been trying to quit drinking for the past year. I was also taking it once a week or so for "pleasure". I was developing a problem and recognized that. With my drug history, I never should have been given a scrip for a benzo to begin with. I took 6mg 3 days into my sobriety a couple weeks ago and decided I should add klonopin to my list of things to do without unless I absolutely needed it for a panic attack. Yesterday was 15 days since the last time I took it. I did not have a physical dependency on it due to the method/timing in which i was taking it. My stopping and flushing it yesterday would be of no consequence for this reason.
In my convos with people on here including KK, no one advised me to stop taking my meds without first speaking to my Dr. I was encouraged to seek a second/third opinion and to consider alternatives to the benzos. I think that is the point here. Seek alternatives. Don't replace one addiction with another if at all possible.
I posted this with good intentions. i am very proud that I had the courage to rid myself of an dangerous substance before I became dependent on it. This was a BIG STEP for me and i am still today very pleased with myself for doing it.
This is not a suggestion to anyone , except maybe when your doctor offers a benzo to ask them about other options and see what they have to say.
i did what i thought was right in the situation.......it was wrong.
and yes, it has happened more then i can count.
she has tried to explain to me.....yet she is not sure.
she has since gotten off the "pills" the frequencies have demolished.............what did i learn? i liked her then and i like her now. all i know is gentle hugs and an attempt to understand helped.
by the by....there is no such thing as "non-dependency" unless of course you rely on no one, no belief or the humility of a greater force the self.
peace and whispers. lew
I think the "your answer is too broad" or "you don't have the credibility to make that statement" comments are an easier, softer way of saying, "Take the cotton out of your ears and stick it up your ass!"
I find that when one admonishs another for trying to be helpful, it is usually because they are not "comfortable" with your whole premise. The respectable method of communication is to add insight to what has already been said.
I feel you have very good points to add to most of these threads related to multiple addictions. Keep adding as you have. I would rather someone admonish a bump on the log. These are the ones that could really benefit from stretching their brains a bit.
I've always said that if your heart is in the right place, your affect will be understood. As you have said previously, if someone don't get it, they have every opportunity to ask for clerification.
Keep on keeping on,
