Not drinking and feeling good about it

Man, I posted something earlier and it didn't work for some reason. Oh well. I don't want to rewrite the whole thing.

So I went to another meeting yesterday. I had drank in the early afternoon but did not get drunk and when I went to the meeting at 6pm I was completely sober. Heard a lot of good stories that I related to and when I told a bit of my story there was one guy who really related to what I said. I left that meeting feeling good and did not drive to the store to buy booze like I had done previously. I went straight home and hugged my family.

Today I have not had a drink and I have another meeting in an hour. I have one question though. All of the meetings I have gone to in the past week have been open meetings but the one I am going to tonight is a closed meeting for men only. Should I expect anything different from this meeting? Thx.

Well I am off to the meeting so I guess I will find out soon.

No closed means that outside people that are not alcoholics cannot go there. ITs for alcoholics and for those who have a desire to stop drinking

Hope you made it to the meeting Mister Jones. I can relate to going home and hugging your family after. What I heard in meetings was so close to home for me, and it made me appreciate being sober that day. If I'd kept drinking, I may not have made it another. Commitment and effort.

the closed mens meetings are great if the men are active in AA and doing their step work...usually the guys at this type of meeting are serious about recovery and show it in how they share, what they share, and will help anyone with the desire to not drink learn how they did that! I go to my home group which is closed mens meeting on the 12 steps...we have speaker discussion on one step per week. I love my home group.

So what was your experience there? Did I tell it like it was? Mostly when we leave the women out of the meetings we can be a little kind of masculine when we should hold that back in an mixed meeting....

Hopefully now you have a few more days w/out a drink?
I don't know about men's meetings, but, I've been to closed women's meetings and they are wonderful. Something about all women (and I assume all men) together, all alcoholics, who are there to share in a common solution.

One thing about a mens stag that you wont get anywhere else. Unadulterated honesty. Theres no females to impress ,no one is interested in hearing some fabricated lies. They want to hear what you have to say coming from your heart. Unrehearsed just pure honesty. It will be a refreshing break from the same old thing. Be prepared to hear what you need to hear not what you want to hear.

My favorite meetings are men's closed meetings. It helps me to hear from other men about situations that I face (we all face) on a daily basis. It also helps me form relationships that aren't challenged with competition and politics.

So I went to that meeting on Friday and it was cool. It was a bit larger of a meeting than the other meetinggs I had been to before. Most of the guys in there were old-timers and this seemed to be their home meeting because they all knew each other really well. They made me feel welcome and almost all of them came over and shook my hand either during the seventh tradition or after the meeting. This meeting is only on Fridays so I will probably keep going back to change things up from the other meeting I am going to on a nightly basis. That meeting I like a bit better because it is smaller and I feel more comfortable getting up and sharing when there are less people. But anyway, I have been sober since Friday the 13th.
