Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

The only one who can give an accurate opinion on the medical aspects of quitting is your own doctor so if you have any concerns that would be the best person to consult.
At a more general level, it can be said that there are two aspects to quitting. The physical withdrawals will gradually lessen after a few days. This period can be dangerous for some people so medical supervision is advisable, while for others it is just a period of discomfort that they can cope with on their own. You are probably near the end of that physical withdrawal period now but I have read somewhere that it takes up to three months for all traces of alcohol to leave the system.
The mental aspect of quitting is what you will need to deal with now and this can be tricky. Your mind will try to convince you that you can drink as long as it is less than before or that after a period of sobriety, you now have it under control. Since you are through the worst part of physical withdrawal, why not quit today instead of tapering?
If you are an alcoholic, every time that you drink, your body will crave more alcohol and that makes it very difficult to cut down gradually. When you no longer drink, you cannot have this craving.

Will I ever drink again? I don't know. But I'm not drinking today.
