Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Every year about this time I begin dreading New Years Eve. The last few I've been alone on and I guess the insecurity inside me has driven me to drink to the point where I don't remember the New Year coming in. I'm already feeling the dread, because I know wherever I go on that night, I'm going to manufacture my own misery in my head. It's to the point that it almost scares me to know that it's coming up. As a newly sober person, I know its going to be tough. How have your newly sober New Years Eve's went? Any advice on how to deal with it?

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

I was about 7 months sober, and by then, I was damn grateful to be so, and I let them know in the morning I wasn't missing out on anything, quite the opposite. NYE's since we've been down to watch the fireworks on the harbour. We either take the boat out or they've got special cordoned off family areas where no alcohol is allowed. I've spent a couple where I've turned in early. Truthfully, it's just another day to me, and I'm grateful for each one.
Once I stopped woryring about the future and regrettig the past, it opened up a whole new world. Right NOW is pretty cool.
Stick close to the program. Lots of meetings going on around the holidays all over the place, I'm sure.
All the best.

The next life problem that arises I bow my head and try to improve conscious contact with something that is more powerful than me.
Anything outside of the realm of now is mental masturbation.
Long story short; New years is still 9 days away.

Hell I am dying from Hep C, untreatable. Multiple fusions in neck.

I think it's good that you're thinking about it ahead of time!!! Gives you time to make sober plans!!!
I have no words of wisdom for you, but I wish you well and I hope you make it through the night without drinking!!! (((((Hugs)))))
It doesnt seem so important anymore. I have spent all of my sober new years eves with people from AA who are now my friends. But I think it would be ok if I spent it on my own as well.
This year I will be at an AA meeting from 7-9.30 and then coming home with my best friend ( who is also my AA sponsor) and we will have something nice to eat, watch some TV and play some board games probably. Not much different from a normal night and I like it that way.
LOL! Be a designated driver. That insures that you will be sober and that your precious cargo will arrive home safe. Good idea!!
As long as you're sure being in the bars and clubs won't be too much so early in your sobriety.
i learned early that being alone is not so bad..........you can still share love in phone calls and idle talk to strangers that cross your path. i think the secret is "knowing"
new year eves hugs and whispers to you lew
I've discovered that holidays really aren't as big a deal as I feared they would be. Staying in the moment really helps--plus, I actually get to enjoy the moment when I do that.
You'll be fine.
