Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
And the "f" word to really drill down on issue's I -I mean "we" feel strongly about,
And I'm a big supporter of the ladies being able to use the word "B%#*H" as i think it's there perogative to be able o use that word-
well I cant be sexist so we would have to let the boye use irt "infrequently"
The "c' word is out of the equation-4mytasha gave me hell for using that1-Dayum-she'll never let me live it down-
And i think "bastard" the word-is hard to find a reason to use that word-well some1 may offer a suggestion for that-definetely not on! if any1 uses that word to abuse me -I can tell you right now- I'll be right up "Krm" wee bottom to get onto that!!-
Ummmm I think there my only concerns for now!!
AAAW-sorri-"the "N" word cant use that sorri!-I cant stand being called "NIMrod"-dunno why???
just could'nt ever take a fancy to that-Good day to you all
My question is.....who elected him/you and why was I not offered the opportunity of even knowing an opening for such a position even existed?
How does one qualify?
For example: Long time ago, there was a man here (will withhold names) who was trying to help me see 'the whole picture'. I had many come to my defence telling him to stop because it wasn't helping me. Come to find out, he was the BIGGEST help of all! He helped me see things that I wasn't aware of. That I was blind to. I think that if someone would have seen that mess of a thread that I, yes I, created, it might have been stopped...before the Miracle took place.
So with all that said, I disagree with this.
Keith, no offence toward you, or anyone that takes this possition...just my honest opinion and experiance.
Thanks,
Karen
I just want to applaud and second what you said in post # 29. The people who helped me most in early sobriety were definitely NOT the ones who pandered to my morbid and self-pitying need for sympathy and attention. The ones who helped me most were those who made no effort to shield me from the fact that early recovery is a very painful process of ego-puncturing and deflation rather than confidence-building, and they were able to relate to me from their own experience that walking through that pain head-on is crucial if the process is going to succeed. If they had showered me instead with things like cyber hugs and clip-art butterflies to sweeten and dull that pain, it would have been like giving me small doses of candy-coated arsenic, and the cumulative effect would have been fatal.
Unfortunately for internet formats like this, a lot of this sort of support was conveyed with facial expresions, body language and tones of voice that can't be duplicated in print on a computer screen. But it was the warm, kind sparkle I saw in their eyes and and heard in their heartfelt laughter that soon convinced me that this more bitter sort of medicine was the real deal. They were getting a kick out of life, and until I showed that I wanted what they had and was willing to learn, they just told me to keep coming and walked away.
Some might call that cruelty or rudeness, but nowadays I call it love-- a love that totally surpassed this alcoholic's severely cramped and limited understanding of that word and what it eventually came to mean to me. If I had gotten the sort of support I was expecting and looking for, I'd have been dead a long time ago.
Yes, that's it! Yank me up by the hair and say LOOK! This isn't fun and games! This is as a matter of Fact, life and death!
My friends were all trying to help me with my own head games that I played on myself, but this guy was telling me what I really Needed to hear, not just what I THOUGHT I wanted to hear, and yeah it/he was tough on me, but that's exactly what started opening my eyes. That tough love.
Some don't like it like that, and may not need it like that, but, I did/do.
I hope that in the future if we aren't interested in a post around here, we try to open our minds and not feel so much. It does help too though if someone isn't coming across as condesending, but helpful. Not with smarty pants comments or questions, but sincere concern comments or questions to those who are hurting or needing advice or just sharing. Then I think we should be able to handle this ourselves.
