Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I got on facebook today and saw a picture of my friend. She was my first, and only, sponsor. She changed my life in a short amount of time & helped me to get sober when I quit drinking/doing drugs the first time. She was passionate about recovery, sober for 19 years before she took that "one drink" and she died within 2 years. Today is her birthday. I'm really wishing I had her here with me right now. She cared, she made you feel like you mattered. I am sad that she relapsed and lost her life and at the same time I want to join her. Just to give up the fight. She fought a good fight, but lost in the end. She should have made it, but I guess no one is immune to this disease. I know there are people on this site who selflessly carry the message to those who still suffer. Thank you. I am grateful there are still people who reach out to those of us, myself included, who struggle.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

Rejoice in the joy she brought into your life and move forward in your recovery celebrating the tools she happily gave her knowing she would want the best for you.
Because you do matter.
Wishing you well G8
You are here for a reason....and your sponsor maybe is reaching out to you via Facebook...letting you KNOW that you CAN do this and she has faith that you will.
It is sad about your friend but you know, maybe her work on this earth was done. She changed your life in a short time and she probably changed many other lives for the better too before God called her. She is no longer with you in body but maybe her spirit is still watching over you.
The very best way that you could celebrate your friends life is to stay sober and to help other people. Her work was to pass the message to you and she did that. Your work is to put your faith in a god of your understanding and to try and live by the suggested principles. A sponsor is a human being and will always be in danger of failing but if you put your faith in God and the programme of recovery you will succeed.
Thank you for your post you have helped me today.
How did they make it for those 19 years ? How were they able to stay sober? Get into action , take back control of your life c'mon you count to us

I think one of the greatest gift you can give is to honor her life by allowing her to continue to work through you in the things you were taught and passing these along to others who are struggling! That can be her legacy and years from now, can be yours as well, kinda like... the butterfly affect!
I have seen many people die from this disease through the years, including my mother. I know how bad it hurts to watch someone slowly kill themselves with a bottle. It sucks. The best thing we can do is show others, by example, what sobriety has done for us which will in turn, motivate us to stay sober!
God Bless you and your friend!
19 years of living a good life is something to celebrate though. And in the end, who knows why she did? I am willing to bet though that she would want you to stay away from that first drink, no matter what. if any good can come from such a loss perhaps its that you don't have to make that choice. You can choose to continue a sober life a day at a time. Its such a gift.
