Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Have you ever considered you might not be alcoholic, you might not need AA.
I kind of agree with GNR (as my message to you) but I think alcoholism has many "sides" - I was ignorant in the beginning - ah, Alkies - seen them living under bridges, I'm not like that - then I met good guys here (not Dan)and realised so many walk from fitted carpets into an AA meeting..
You will learn that this a disease, and it progressively gets alot worse!!!
Im MY case the only that worked for me was to go to meetings, find a sponsor, and work the 12 steps.
The problem we have is in our thinking, we dont think right. AA helps us slowly change the way we think, (psychic change). Immediately or slowly over time you want your HP to take over and run your life.
The way some of us ran our lives, we really just fucked it all up. We suffer in our brain & body. Our brain tells us were OK to have a drink, and after that our body reacts differently than all normal drinkers. That's why they say to avoid the first drink at all costs.
We are not all close-minded, some of us have had a real tough time with alcohol!!!!
To some, its a life and death situation.
This could go on for days, so just keep coming back!
Straight up thanks Les& Dan, that was funny, for me at least.
Many people on DS have open minds and hearts. All you have to do is make them your friends and Bobs your uncle, meaning problem solved. You will have the support you want.
Many others have watched parents and loved ones destroy what sanity they had left.I think it is through knowledge and humilty that some have not followed the same path, and maybe a lack of knowledge and will power that some have.I am only pondering here.
I swore I would not be the same as my parents.I had my first drink when I was 19 and I was not able to stop untill I had hit rock bottom,I was 33 years old.
Unlike you I had few choices, the horror stories were to heavy on my heart and my mind.I had to escape thinking I was worthless.I had to find meaning to my life. The 12 steps got me through and for this I am grateful for much.
What ever path you take I wish you all the best.
Tom.
