Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

No, I do not seek oblivion. Mostly I drink to manage "pain." That has meant different things at different times in my life. Once it meant not being able to face my parents because they did not approve of my marriage. Once it meant not wanting to face my job - but knowing I could not quit because I was the primary bread winner. Once it meant not facing my husband's family problems. Once it meant dealing with the death of my husband at age 49 of a massive heart attack. And so on, and so forth. It's "medication." I drink until I don't feel the pain any more. Sometimes one drink is enough, sometimes not.
If I don't drink any more, I will need to find a new way to deal with pain in my life. I just don't know what that would be . . . yet.
The engine and caboose story really got my attention... if I dont pick up the first drink then then there are lots of others boxcars available to save my my caboose(arse):)
Alcohol consumption for me only symbolized discomfort...a dilemma,, paradox, killing myself cause I did not wanna learn to understand myself etccc.wearing a mask only creates a false self and being sober is only a opportunity to see that.....
Crazy Jerry said to me ..Billy You cant hide out in AA...because your comfortable only wiff the Alcoholism label that is only a word (beginning) ..Get real about your life before you drank and you might see why your caboose (arse) is on fire emotionally:)

Billy
That is not worth it to me anymore.
smash that idea
And most importantly: no alcoholic can learn to moderate. They may be able to fool themselves for a while, but sooner or later, it WILL get out of hand again. As far as I am concerned, there is a myriad of things much worse to lose control over and not regain. Alcohol? Pffft. Take it. We're all better off--alcoholic or not.
