Job seeking with recent DUI

I got a DUI 5 months ago and it was moved up from the standard Misdemeanor B to a Misdemeanor A, because of my high BAC and being previously jailed for PI (only Misdemeanor C) a few times the same year.
I haven't drank at all since then but I'm very worried I may be losing my new job pretty soon and will have to start job hunting soon with this on my recent record.

I know others here have probably had DUIs as well.
How bad honestly is this going to look to employers? It's the only thing that shows up during background checks (Two employers I applied with a while back said my other offenses didn't show up). I'm pretty worried.

I joined AA and got a sponser and I remember him telling me that good things always come out of bad situations. Some call it Karma, the Christians call it Divine Providence but whatever it was, it was true.

I also lost my job and no employer was willing to take a chance on a man my age, with limited abilities and a bad back. I needed to eat so I created my own job! I am self employed, I work when I want to work and as much as I want to work and I don't have a boss looking over my shoulder! I have what I need and I have a great life. I am very happy and all I had to do was stay sober.....the rest took care of itself!

the problem you face is multi-faced....does any employer want someone who has driving while drunk problems and also the ability to get to work when you cannot drive....as well as the fact that you probably have issues with alcohol which could effect your work....

I am self employed too because I could not find good jobs at my age...I have been self employed since I was 50.....I am 58 now...it helps to know a way to make money on your own....I do not make tons of money but it supplements other income I get from Government....

Things will work out. If you don't pick up a drink then you are on the right rack. The more you worry about it the worse it will be. It's like driving a car. If u focus on the ditch , you are going in. Focus on he road ahead. Get into action. Can you make some positive moves to offset the charge. Like good volunteer work. Get into action and things will get better.

As an employer, I would be more concerned by a few PI arrests than a single DUI. A single DUI can be seen as a huge mistake and wake-up call. Numerous PI's indicate a pattern of behavior.

Do you have any plans to address your alcohol problem?

FWIW, I when I applied for my current job, I was truthful about my DUI. I was also truthful about my successful completion of probationary requirements and the fact that I had been sober since the incident.

Thankyou for the replies. I don't think I'll drink again and I'm currently in the AA program working on step four with my sponsor. I had big issues with the program before and still don't agree with all of it but am getting a lot of good things from it, too. It helps to have a really cool sponsor.

Self employment sounds exciting. I don't know if I have the skills for something like that. Hats off to those who can bring in money that way. I suppose if I must I could get rid of my car and just ride a bike everywhere. Would cut $500 out of my monthly expenses and I never cared much for cars and the hassles they bring anyway. In fact without a car I never would've gotten a DUI
