Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I haven't drank for 5 months but for some reason this week I have been really craving. I just went out to a swimming event with the kids and met up with an old friend. We have both been invited to another friends wedding. She started saying we could get a taxi together and instead of saying I could drive as not drinking I found myself going along with it. I think I was thinking stuff this no drinking I want to have fun. So I came home and poured myself a glass of wine.....But I couldnt drink it. I looked at it the whole time I ate my supper then I gave it to hubby. I said to myself I may drink tomorrow. But hopefully I wont.
I was doing well now I think Im thinking is this forever??? I know I will regret it if I drink and start on that bloody hamster wheel again that has taken me my whole life to get off of it.
Id be grateful for your advice Im really struggling right now.

Dick Van Dyke’s path to sobriety was a turning point in his life and career. Here’s what happened:How He Got SoberStruggles and Realization: Van Dyke began drinking as a teenager, largely to cope with shyness and social anxiety. Alcohol made him feel more comfortable in social settings, but over time, his drinking spiraled out of control. By his mid-40s, he recognized that he had an addictive...

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...

Then when the sun comes up again - do the same things again. Sobriety is like eating an elephant. One bite at a time.
You'll make it OK...

Many times in my early sobriety I wanted to drink .That's what I done in my past, good times, bad times ,happy times, sad times I drank.so why not do the same when things came up in early sobriety. But the more times I didn't pick up just like you done and good on you for that the more I knew I didn't need to drink.
For me it was about changing my thinking and not listening to that first though that came into my head the one that said take a drink you deserve it remember the goooood times no one will know.
I started to listen to the second thought the one that said look what happened the last time you drank the shame guilt and remorse you suffered do you want that back do you want that" bloody hamster wheel again" and the answer was no.
So there will be times when you want to drink but remember you don't need to, listen to that second thought in your case give the drink to hubby.
I was lucky in those early months I had support from friends in AA I was able to pick up a phone and ring people and talk about what was happening.
Thanks for posting .
God Bless...

But you didn't drink and tomorrow morning I hope you can put that in your head that you won't drink today. You're doing great. If you do decide to drink, don't beat yourself up. That's one of the worst things that leads right back to the bottle.
It is thinking it through that helps me. Also, knowing that I could very well get in a suicidal state - because if I drank again, I would feel so very terrible about it.
good on you for hanging in there - another day sober, is a successful day.
Never mind 'forever'. Just think 'right now.'
