Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. Last night I was driving to pick up my wife from school. She takes some night classes a few days a week. On my way there I was driving behind what seemed to be a drunk driver. When we took off from a red light the driver started veering into the next lane and almost sideswiped a truck and then veered back into my lane in front of me. I thought maybe they just were trying to move over and didn't see the truck. But then they started slowing down and then speeding up. Couldn't keep one speed. I decided to try and go around them but as I moved over the car veered right again so I moved back behind. I was talking to my Dad on the phone and he told me I better call the police. I was wrenching over the decision to do that because I was that person out on the roads before (although I'm an excellent drunk driver, or so I thought, haha) and I wouldn't have wanted to get pulled over and arrested.
So anyway, my Dad convinced me to call and I did. I got the liscense plate and make of the vehicle but couldn't continue to follow them because my wife was already out of school and waiting for me outside at 9pm so I turned off onto the street where the school is. Calling 911 from a cell phone connects you to CHP and they connected me to the local PD. I gave them the info and they asked for my name and phone number. They never called me back so I assume they never found the car.
I feel a little bit like a hypocrite since I have engaged in the same behavior but at the same time, what if this person continued on and hit someone or killed someone?

You're sober now, you're living a better life, and reporting one of us is the right thing to do. If someone in your family were killed or badly injured from a drunk driver, wouldn't you wish someone would have called?
a) get a DUI
b) have an accident and injure/kill self
c) have an accident and injure/kill someone else
Anyone recieving a DUI should consider themselves lucky, there are worse alternatives.
Look at it this way you may provide the push that leads someone to a life of sobriety.
My last DWI, that may go to a jury trial, may be decided by three kids that were driving behind me, and said I was all over the road and about hit them. No brethalyzer, no field sobriety, just 3 witnesses.
At any rate if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be sober now!!!!!!!!!!!!.
