Hi everyone, I have been on here in awhile...but thought I would stop by...I miss reading post mainly because they give me different perspectives AND because this is the site that a few years ago put up with all of my questions while I considered getting help. I eventually reach out to AA and my life has improved in unspeakable ways!!
Today I had a step meeting (we are just reading the 12 and 12 and talking about each step) and we read the 7th step...."Humbly asked Him to remove our short coming".
I am trying to refocus myself on this step because it is so difficult for me. I am always wanting something, not feeling good enough, or wanting my life to go my way. All of the emotions that cause me to be unhappy, frustrated and full of fear. I want to be able to accept were I am in life and trust that everything will work out (as it always does anyways). I want to be humble enough to know that I am good enough, but not better than anyone else (and not to compare myself...that is one of my big flaws...and causes a lot of misery). I am just myself, flaws and all and I can pray about them and HUMBLY ask Him to remove them....
What does humility mean to you?

What does humility mean to you?
Every morning I start the day with "Your will please God, not mine" as I know that any fear that crops up through the daily grind is a red flag that can bring my ego running back and causing havoc. So there I need to do a spot check inventory - am I going to have courage through faith or am I going to resort to my old ways and demands?
The St Francis prayer (where I am we call it the Step 11 prayer also) is a handy reference for refreshing a sense if humility. Also here is a poem I keep a copy of that means a lot to me. It's by Jane Taylor, a poet who lived until the early 1800s
The Violet
Down in a green and shady bed,
A modest violet grew;
Its stalk was bent, it hung its head
As if to hide from view.
And yet it was a lovely flower,
Its colour bright and fair;
It might have graced a rosy bower,
Instead of hiding there.
