Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
DSaddict... How safe is midnight kayaking? MUCH safer and less damaging than my 5 day binges.
Jack... Mountain biking down steeper hills. The character defects carry over to my sports. I have caught myself one hand on a limb and one on my bike from falling down a cliff and I have had some near death experiences on my mountain bike. Helmet required. And let's just say with team sports, the other "kids" like me on their team. Great way to burn aggression.
Yes, Glad, self-help. I knew exercise was crucial for me. I have been so caught up in white knuckling it that I couldn't get myself out of bed, off the couch, or off the phone.
Balance in all our life activities is critical to living a life full of happiness.
Exercise does, however, give up that chemical boost that drinking or drugs might provide on some level. It is difficult to get up and go for a run when one has been on the couch or in bed drinking for a very long time. So, start slow, walk, then run or whatever. I swim now which is not a hard on one's body to begin with.
Exercise is not the only answer though...we must stay viligant to the "monsters" in the dark waiting to leap at us...those critters that remind us that we might feel the need to drink to make them go away. But now I know I don't need a glass of wine to make them go away. I have found a way to make those scary critters my friends now. I forgave and now I just don't care any longer about the crap that happened long, long, long ago. Today is a new day full of hope and anticipation of what I can accomplish. Feels good. The jobs, people, houses, loves, etc. may all be gone or on their way out the door...but the real Alice (and the real Anna) is still here. And she can create again...have faith that you can too.
