Hi all - Anne, alcoholic, 9 months two days ago! I have a question. My sponsor is out if the country right now but will ask her when she returns as well. In writing out our holiday letter that we send out to close friends and family, I got to my paragraph. Besides work, I had nothing else to add about my activities over the year. Son has baseball, daughter has horse shows, husband has coaching. Me? Nada.
Except getting sober, working a program, and loving a sober life. That's been my "activity" this year. I'm wondering if I should tactfully add it in. Most people that we are close to know already, so it's not "new" news. I do however worry about the "anynomous" part in AA. Would this "break" that?

It is never okay to break someone else's anonymity in any circumstance.
Your own anonymity at a personal level is up to you entirely. For instance the men in my group know my full name etc so I am easily contactable but they don't give my name or number to anyone else on a personal level without okaying it with me first. Just the way we do it in my group.
The only thing to consider is that nothing can be unsaid so do think carefully about your decision to tell others.
I don't break my anonymity to non-members unless they confide in me about their own drinking problem and, my nearest and dearest know of course. But that's just me. In my country AA is not as talked about or obvious as it might be in yours.
As for breaking annonymity, that's at the level or radio/ press/ films. So as long as you arent going on the Today show and telling them you are a recovered alcoholic and go to AA you should be fine.
But seriously....I would NOT put anything about AA in a greeting card. Why? Its a program of attraction not promotion. Be an example. Let your actions be the attraction.

What the others have said about anonymity . And what you said Me? Nada. That couldn't be any further from the truth who is the one who's been supporting the son,daughter and hubby while doing her best to stay sober Anne.
Do whatever feels right for you but just think it through I personally don't mention AA unless I am ask but most of my family know I go some even think I am running it these days .lol and remember people that matter don't mind and people who mind don't matter.
Have a look where you were 9months and 2 days ago and have a look where you are today what a spiritual journey .You have had to do a lot of footwork to get to today so forget about that Nada ok.
