I'm 80 days sober today so doing fantastic. I am not ready to stop smoking yet, I feel like giving up drugs and alcohol was a big move, and cigarettes are my last thing I want to eventually give up, I will do it, as if I can give up the other stuff, I obviously have the willpower to give up anything I put my mind to..................but need to want to do it, and don't feel that way as of yet. But good on, you for giving up alcohol and cigarettes, that is amazing and shows what strength and obvious will power you have. Good job, as we say 'one day at a time'.

Used to spend 5000 dollars a year on Cigarettes.
Used to spend 21,600 dollars a year on Weed.
Used to spend 18,000 dollars a year on Coke.
Used to spend 9,000 dollars a year on Pills.
Used to spend 8,640 dollars a year on Beer.
Used to spend 9,000 dollars a year on Whiskey.

On average, I bought two packs a day, bought an eighth of weed a day, bought a gram of coke a day, bought five pain pills a day, bought a case of beer a day, and bought a fifth of whiskey a day. That was my ideal purchasing order for the day when I wasn't recovered.

My total cost for the year to maintain my addiction and alcoholism was costing me 71,000 dollars. Not to mention the legal fees, the car repairs, the lost wages from calling in, or missing out on better jobs, or promotions.

Each year I remain sober, and do the right thing, I am basically paying myself 70 grand, cha ching!

Fred, you remind me of why I am sober, all that money I spent on drugs and booze, now - still wasting some of it on cigarettes, but not forever, and is nice to buy things with the money we have, on stuff that isn't destroying our bodies and mind, but things we can appreciate and enjoy.

Ah man, you guys read my mind on the money part. Habits can cost a crap load. I used to smoke 3 packs of cigarettes a day. That's roughly $7000 a year! And I'd drink 50oz of beer every night. Inly at night though, my rule is never drink during the day. I used alcohol to put me to sleep. After I quit, I noticed I have more money in my wallet and bank account

I remember thinking I had no problem cos I only drank from 4,00 pm onwards, AA put me straight on that one :), I was still an alcoholic regardless of what time it was - but in my head I thought I had it all under control, I can laugh at that now, that was my messed up head rationalizing it & making excuses, but now know I was an alcoholic no matter what time it was :)

Wow I remember now maxed out cc s and having to have cash in pocket to walk in a bar. But I couldn’t see how I was just killing myself
