Just here to remind everyone how bad drinking damages your organs. Im 47 very little over weight, no family history of heart disease and been healthy my whole life. People look at me and say I would never know your a binge drinker or smoker but 9/15/14 I had a heart attack and by the grace of God was in the hospital when I went into cardiac arrest! The widow maker 100% blocked. I would not be here to tell my storey if not for the wonderful Dr and Nurses who brought me back with no brain damage or other bad things that happen to people in that situation. If you have read any of my journals I have had a hard time staying sober. Don't need a drink every day but on weekends lookout, so ugly for a woman or anyone to look at this time in my life. Well on Tuesday I got another wake up call geez how many does my dumb ass need! I have another blockage and going in for hopefully just 1 stent and nothing worse. I thank Sosa hope I spelled that right for her latest post. I am committing myself to that freedom, it's life or death at this point. I'm emotional today because I have been saying I'm going to get sober but that was just a word. Today I feel it and saying goodby to my drinking that is no longer my friend but my killer and enemy. Think of it this way! There are many people who don't drink yet have no control over their health problems so must put them in the Hands of God but YOU Have control over yours! So why don't you grab that drinking bull by the horns and kick his ass out of your life forever! Live the life you were meant to live! Free yourself from the chains if alcohol and share your story because many can identify and will be helped! You will potentially, save many lives but you must save yours first!

Good to hear that you are realizing the effects of drinking on your body; I've had a few scares myself over the years, and not everyone gets a second (or third) chance. It's a temptation for the "committed drinker", to go back to their old ways as soon as you are given a clean bill of health.......watch out for those thoughts. Life is precious!

Thanks bobinmaine my sister says you must have some purpose on this earth because you survived people don't with widow maker arrest and yes I hope once I'm sober and emotionally healthy can tell my story, may be my calling. You hit the nail LLB2, I was sober for about 6 months after these events I told a nurse in passing how I miss drinking then nurse thinking being nice said you can have a drink! Oh boy the flood gates opened. I am crazy drinking so much on all those meds (blood thinners etc). That is how f----- up my relationship with alcohol is. Looking back to my earlier years of drinking never just got a buzzed would get wasted and that was my goal. Lately my goal is to drink responsible but I can't. No matter how are I try I just can't because as they say i am powerless, I am a alcoholic I just can't talk or think my way out of this one.

well the good news is that stopping drinking with AA is a supportive environment that happens every day all over the world every few hours.....so you can join AA and tell that story and change your life in ways you are not even now aware of by working the twelve steps in AA....I am glad you are committed to stopping now....sorry it took suck drastic health issues to get your attention but it takes what it takes to reach bottom and start climbing up! Hugs bill

I was at deaths door. I remember being in pain from a enlarged liver. I was hardly able to stand up. I remember getting told by my dr that I had triple the normal enzyme level for my liver level. So what did I do? Go get a drink. I was only able to cope with a drink. I then joined this site and then found a room of AA. That was June of 2012. I found a way out and you can too.
