Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
You seem to think that you are in control of your alcoholism in that you seem sure that you won't drink. You have no idea when the most overpowering urge to drink will hit you.
I doubt people will pressure you to drink, if that happens, be matter-of-fact, no long explanations and tell them you are not drinking. You don't owe anyone a reason, and it is very rare that anyone really cares whether you drink or not.
The part that might be uncomfortable (or tedious) is being around drunk people. Might help you feel even better about your decision to quit, but you also might want to have an escape plan if that happens.
I did go to a few big boozey events in early sobriety and was fine. I was fine though as I had an exit plan always, I went to a meeting that day, I called my sponsor and talked it through, and I felt it was safe for me to go. My husband is a normie but he's also a huge supporter. In my early sobriety he wouldnt drink at events where I felt akward and that helped.
Let him know you might be uncomfortable and you need to put your sobriety first. Its not his job nor can he keep you sober. But tell him how you feel.
Anyway, as for your party - it's Sunday, so I am curious how it went.
Most people really don't care what you have in your glass or cup. They are usually concerned about what is in theirs. I couldn't do parties or get togethers where there was booze when I was early on in recovery. Just too dangerous. I may have hurt a few feelings by turning down things, but it's my life...literally. This is life and death stuff.
Hope it all went well :)
You can and you must have a good time sober:-) I enjoy parties now way more than when I was drinking. And now I can remember the good times...don't have to worry about what I said and to who.....and so on and so on.
2 months sober ? .... Your playing with fire. Hope you don't get burnt.
