Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

From my dad, for my 40th birthday. I haven't seen him in 5 years or talked to him in 4 because of his drinking. He was abusive growing up, and even when I was older (35).
Everyone has their "stuff", but this has shaken me - I wasn't expecting it at all. I'm annoyed that it has shaken me because I try not to think of him. Doing my 4th step, I have a lot on him.
It's also hard because he doesn't know that I'm in AA. After me pleading for years, he has chosen drink over his only child and grandchildren. Part of me wants to tell him, in sick hopes he will join me.
On the upshot, as I was staring at the envelope wondering if I should open it, my sponsor called.
Coincidence? We think not.

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

Happy Birthday -- is that today?
Nothing has to be done about dad now, or maybe ever- unless you feel like it. Ex Jersey has a good idea with writing to him...sometimes it gets it out of your head that way...
Yeah, sponsor calling just then? God moment. Gotta love them!
I know it's easy to have compassion for other alcoholics who are in recovery and doing something about their alcoholism. We are the lucky ones. I'm not justifying anything, just saying that he is an alcoholic just like you are.
Keep doing the work and more will be revealed. You'll see.
Happy Birthday!!
we do not get to choose our family of origin but we can surely cut them out of our life if we so choose....
I talked to my sponsor again and she said the same - more will be revealed. Again, my impatient controlling nature steps in!
I'm grateful for being sober tonight, for my sponsor, and for this forum. Thank you.
