SOS program?
Secular organization for Sobriety.
Friend here in St. Louis has gone all in with that program after his attempts in AA resulted in failures. He is sober today to best of my knowledge.

Some people just prefer secular choices for themselves towards staying sober.

Glad you found someone to help you on your way. The higher power thing is very off putting for me. I have only gone to a few meetings which were nice and I totally respected the effort. Just not for me. I go to a codependency meeting once a month and I love that the chair person opens by saying ‘this is not a religious get together’ We’re here to discuss a common issue...

Everyone is pulled toward their own perception of reality and the amazing thing is that they’re all right.
I think when we all accept this the world will be a better place.

I have to do secular. I don't believe in god and my mom and I have had issues with the subject. My first sponsor said she is fine with me being an atheist but she never skipped a chance to insert god or Jesus. She a nice
lady and helpful but it wasn't going a way that was going to help me. When I told her my height power was going to be the painted turtle from my dream. She told me to remember even the turtle doesn't walk alone. That god is here with him.
Where could I find a codependency meetin?

CoDA.org will help find a meeting. The little group I started with had to go to zoom. This is a 12 step program also so expect a similar feel to AA (unless the members are like the ones I know) Just reading about codependency helped me understand more about my behaviors.
I think the underlying healing for any recovery is learning to love ourselves. Keep coming back to this and life just resolves itself.

Ps YOU are your higher power. The knowing, essential being you.

At one of my AA meetings, there was someone who called the coffee pot, their Higher Power. Whatever works for you.

The thing is, when my ego was in charge, I always relapsed but when I gave control of my life to my Higher Power, I was always able to stay sober.

A big part of my recovery has been letting go of my resentments and practicing forgiveness. It helped me stay sober, and it helped me through my divorce. As a result, I am happier then I have ever been.

came out of detox.....did ok...going back to detox....i hope..not running away or using it as a bolthole but last 3 days reached for the bottle need to nip it in the bud once and for all..many reasons why people drink..this time it was actually to numb fibro pain only diagnosed last week...and to boot i made sn online appt to see my dr and it was declined so am guessing he's not available and i'll perhaps get one that doesn't know me...sigh..wish i'd rang and booked appt..ran out of pregabalin which hospital prescribed and pharmascist gave me an emergency supply over the weekend so now i have no dr appt and one day of tablets left...the dr at the hospital gave me 10 x 25mg tablets last weds and said i might need a higher dose... i needed 100mg esp on sunday i wad crawling up the wall in pain ( I googled the 100mg and is perfectly ok) it took the pain away but as explained i ran out of tablets and now because of all the frustration and worry..been u0p all night..i hit the bottle ..some of u might think its a lame excuse but if my gp isn;t there the two that are are horrid and nasty...so i'm naturally very anxious..i am hoping my gp is only off tomorrow and notr all week...anxiety can get out of control as some of u might know..its like obstacle after obstacle and i refuse to go back to where i began which was pretty high on the gin....things 'trigger' drinking..reward, pain, anxiety and depression, things out of our control (my husband got laid off) its been a hellish time i am praying i can go back to detox for at least 5 days....worst year of my life ....and everyone elses..they say cos of covid...places are full of people who are homeless, jobless, anxious, depressed...i just hope for better times..my resilience is running out x stay safe everyone
